I have been trying to afford one of these for a while, but the quality is pretty rough here. What is everyone's opinion?

for being such a new lens (UR date code) it looks to be pretty beat up! If the optics are solid, then great, but the price should be lowered for the cosmetics... (and the fact that there is the chipping of the weatherseal)

Too bad...nice lens that has been banged around. Unless its a STEAL, I would pass.

It is pretty dinged up. If it was a decent margin below the new price I'd go for it however I'd include in my costs $200 ish to send to Canon for cleaning/calibrating.
