The continued use as a portrait lens can lead to addiction. The wrath of the old timers and 80mm optimum focal length will start haunting you. Personaly, I think the look is very good. The only issue is communicating with the model is by bull horn or cell phone. :lol:

and sometimes you run across a shot without the option of switching lenses.

This lens makes me want to sell the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS and the EF 400mm f/5.6L to get it... and an EF-S 55-250mm IS to fill the gap!

It's a sharp lens, for sure.
This victory burnout shot is from over a mile away. At the very top of the photo is the highway. On that highway is a speed limit sign that is crisp enough to be read despite the heat shimmer over the track and fields- maybe about 2 miles away.

Wanted to see how this lens does with the Canon 2.0 TC, I think it will be a usable converter when I need the reach for some birds.

Was a good test because there was a little breeze giving the flower a little movement, something like a bird would do.

I think it is a cool concept. Maybe try a slightly faster shutter speed next time and see how that turns out. Nice job trying something out of the norm.

This will definitely be a big hit on the used market for a LONG time. I think the more compelling new lenses will be 400 and up because of the weight reduction. That and people who want to use tc's a lot.

Shutter speed was 400. I had to increase after the winds picked up. The 300 is a bit of a weather vane.

I had a philosophy when shooting at the pylons. If the keeper count was suffering, up the shutter speed. The amount of time and money expended to be there and the chance to get the shot was a few laps, why not try to get one that is sharp? Last year I tried for really awesome prop blur and walked away with little to show for the day. Never again.

Next time Keith, (so long as the sun angle won't bag you due to flare), try removing the hood when the winds pick up.

Just keep a large Rocket Blower handy or a large, clean, soft makeup brush for quick cleanings between laps...

Good idea- just hate sand blasting the glass. Thinking about adding a wind turbine powered gyro stabilizer :rolleyes:

Fast panning- yes. I use Mode 2 for most all aerobatic and especially racing. Also depends on the distance from the subject. Once I shot without IS and saw little difference on the faster stuff. Drag racing- off.

I agree. I like how you got the shots through the wires and fences - gives a different look to them. Also, I like the fire heat coming from the brakes; that gives you a good perspective of what those rotors and pads go through and why there's so much emphasis place on a good braking system.

Thanks :) They are from the Miramar airshow last weekend. I was all over settings with the night show. Warbird Digest saw the F-18/Corsair shot on a forum and emailed me. They bought it for an upcoming issue. Miramar's skies were a real touch and go and mostly into the sun. Couldn't always shoot straight out front because of the haze and backlighting. The evening show was beautiful light.

I'm just curious how they look as I just purchased my first FF camera (5D Mark II) tonight and I can't wait to attach it!! I know there has to be a bunch on here, but I really don't want to spend hours upon hours checking EXIF data to find some.
