Oh nooooo, I was out shooting photos with my D30, took about 100 shots, then it quit working giving me the error "80". Called canon, they said shutter probably jumped off the track, and I'll have to send it back to get it fixed.

Damn, I just got a 70-200 L lens too. Hardly had time to play with it.

Just lucky I guess :(

Sent the body to Hanover Park like Canon said to. They said they couldn't fix it and sent it to New Jersey. Said the shutter will have to be replaced. I took about 1400 pics with it.

Dear Santa, all I want for xmas is my camera back.

That really STINKS!!!! Keep us posted, will you?
I just got a D30/28-135IS, and I find that the 28-135 underexposes by about one stop. I suspect there's something wrong with either the glass or the aperture mechanism. I've got some warranty service in my future, too...

Talked to the manager at the New Jersey service center today. He said that sometimes it just happens, but now that they have it they will check everything. He said they are not like an assembly line slapping parts together and will look it over good. I was glad to hear someone say that.

Hopefully I'll get it back this friday. Yes Virginia, there is a santa clause. :)

Got the camera back yesterday. Works like a champ. They replaced the shutter, cleaned it, and made sure everything was at factory specifications. :)

That's pretty impressive... gone a grand total of five days? I hope they service my 28-135IS as fast!!

Well, I shipped it the 10th to Hanover park, then they shipped it to New Jersey arriving on the 18th, then I got it back on the 21st. They shipped it over-night back to me which was really nice.

So I'd have to give Canon service 4 out of 4 smileys
:) :) :) :)

I am SO bummed. My D-30 just started with the Err 80 tonight. (At least I was back from vacation!)

I suppose that I am posting just because I feel the need to scream! Only 1 hour till the New Year (for me) and I have to use film for tonights fireworks! At least my EOS-3 will get some work.

Oh Wo is me. :( At least this forum gave me the answer I needed. It wasn't the answer I wanted to hear, but I suppose I'll have them do the Firmware upgrade at the same time.

Thanks for listening to me whine. Off to the fire works with film. (Yick. ;-) )

I know exactly how you feel. I guess it doesn't happen often but when it does its a major bummer.

I've taken bout 2500 shots so far after my error 80 problem was fixed. The temperture here has ranged between 56 and 24 degrees and I would be out for 4 or 5 hours at a time. Seems to be workin fine. I had thought the cold might have had something to do with the error but don't think so now.

One thing... I took everything out or off before shipping it back (strap, batt, cf card, ect) but didn't take the rubber eye cup off. I got it back as I sent it, but could have taken it off as well.

They replaced the shutter, cleaned it, and returned it to factory specifications.

Make sure you insure it when shipping too. I sent it UPS (3 day delivery) with $2500 insurance coverage, cost me 17 bucks.
