I've posed a few, search for threads i've started in this forum, like this one (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=140717). Sometimes I forget or don't get time to take ring pictures, people generally don't notice.

Here's another idea, I don't overly like this but the concept is good if you can pull it off.

get a couple with just their hands and make it B&W with colour...that is always a show stopper for the non-photographer...

I believe Tim has a few of these examples as well...

Cheers,

Tim,

the second shot is like a product shot! Very cool!

Petra,

I love your first picture -- it's very natural, but i'll use idea from your third one.

Thanks a lot!

Char Thank you!!!

I have a small portfolio (which is not updated with the winter weddings) on my website, and a link to the images I pick out (not color corrected and finished images) for the B&G to choose from.

http://petrahall.se -- to see the pictures, you can click on the button "Portfolio" or on the button "Brudpar" and it should be pretty straight forward from there. :D

Thanks Mike for the pictures. They are really nice.

Mike, Petra and Tim -- I really like your stuff -- to hit to your level of expetise and knolage i have a long road ahead of me. I maid my mind on rings in the flowers and the bride approved the reshooting for tomorrow with the flowers.

Thnaks again,

Good luck with your second shoot. I have done that before too. My first wedding ever, was done as a gift and I forgot that shot. The couple had no problem with it. The first photos is actually of my wife and I's rings. Post your final.

Petra, Thanks for the link. AWESOME! In so many of the photos the couples look so relaxed and happy, as if they are having fun and you captured them beautifully. Thanks for sharing.

Char, thank you!!! Well, I think my personality does reflect in their faces. I show no nervosity (I am often a wreck though), and I smile a lot, joke a lot and just make them be themselves. Some are hard to get relaxed, and there might be no time to wait for them to let down the hair, but usually that comes after about 20 minutes into the shoot - which is sad when I sometimes only have about 45-60 minutes to get some good images.

Here are two of mine. The Bible and ring concept is from an earlier post I saw here...this place is just full of great ideas and concepts:) I used a high intensity light at an angle to get the heart shadow correctly. The couple I did this for were delighted...it is his bible and her wedding band. The quotation is 1st Corinthians , Chapter 13, Verses 4 to 8.

The second shot is from a Marine Corps couple I photographed in June this year.

As well as the on-hand pics I always do one on a white background, using with and without the engagement ring. In this case I was at ISO400, F32, flash flash bounced off the ceiling, off camera flash almost directly above slightly to the left and blasting the rings so I could get enough light for a good DOF. Still didn't quite get everything in focus.

That's nice Ron. The sublety of the hands is well done - not a full contrast B&W as we so often see.

I don't know why but I absolutely detest pictures of rings on hands. I find that about 90% of them look so unnatural and odd. I've seen a few that either look more natural or are creative enough to be interesting, but in general, I really prefer the ones of rings on 'random' items with meaning to the couple. My favourite new idea (I've only seen it on here anyway) is the rings on the bible with the shadow making a heart. Lots of other creative ideas here, too.

Whoa mama! "...absolutely detest... - that's pretty strong!
As for "rings on the bible with the shadow making a heart." That's tacky!

I find your quote above to be contradictory at best? I find your use of "tacky" to be pretty strong!

The lady who wanted the Bible and ring photo gave it to her husband as a birthday gift...framed at 8x10 in a simple wooden frame. She loved it and so did her husband...it on his desk in his office in the Pentagon where he is a Major General.

BTW...I have requests for two more of these photos from her friends :)

It is pretty strong, but it really is how I feel. Not that I'm saying they shouldn't be done--I guess most would consider them necessary. I just really don't like them. At first I thought the bible thing was kinda hokey too, but it's grown on me. No accounting for taste I guess.

Yes, but I only took one frame - I had to blow it out real quick. The rings were HOT when I removed them. VERY HOT! :D
