Voting:

Following each closing date, there will be two or three weeks of voting. The exact length will be a practical decision based on the number of photos.
Given the large number of expected entries, I’ll adopt the same voting method as the last POTN POY contest. The photos will be grouped into sets of approximately 10. The winner of each group will be put forward into a play off. A third or fourth round of voting will be used if there are a sufficient number of entries.
POTN members will vote to decide the best photograph in each category. If any contestant (or their representative) is shown to have attempted to influence the voting of other members, that photograph will be automatically disqualified. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting new members to vote for a photo.
You must have been a member for at least 30 days in order to vote

In which category would you expect macro enthusiasts to enter their efforts. Wildlife for insect macros, I suppose? What about flowers/plants? Or should we stick with our own macro competitions?

Mike, that's a very good point and not one that'd considered. I've shifted things around a little and have introduced a macro competition in September.

I want to draw your attention to two new voting rules:
1. POTN members will vote to decide the best photograph in each category. If any contestant (or their representative) is shown to have attempted to influence the voting of other members, that photograph will be automatically disqualified. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting new members to vote for a photo.

2. You must have been a member for at least 30 days in order to vote

How long must one have been a member to submit an entry?

Big_B

5 minutes :D

The new rules aren't there to keep new people out, rather to prevent problems we've had in previous competitions.

do you have to enter every comp to have a running chance at photographer of the years?

No you don't

One minor comment (OK, a quibble): I notice that the thread titles for the various competitions have the date as dd/mm. As an American, this can be confusing at first glance. May I humbly suggest that the month be spelled out? So instead of 10/4 you can have April 10 or 10 April.

Of course! Sorry, it hadn't occured to me :)

I want to submit several photos
but for me to find thru hundred of thusands of photos the right one is a problem for me (it's possibe, but will take me more then the dead-line :D)

May I submit photos with a tiny small copyright notice ?
It will save me lots of time

Sorry, they need to be plain photos. No copyrights or borders

I'm new to entering these photo contests, so i have this singular question, where, exactly, do i post one of my photos for submission?

hey Big_B,

i have a photo that i would like to submit to the wildlife catagory. when will be a good time to send it to you? the reason i ask is because i know that you have tons of photos to take care of and i would like to know when to send mine without causing too much trouble...

You can send it at any time, although it's easiest for me if you can wait until I launch the wildlife contest thread (in about 2/3 weeks). Also, note that I've just extended the deadlines for forthcoming contests.

Under each of your contests, as follows, may I suggest that it might be easier to create a link for each entry page:

Timetable:

*
o Landscapes and Cityscapes (Closes 15th March)
o Abstract/Other (Closes 31st May)
o People & Portraits (Closes 20th July)
o Wildlife (Closes 15th September)
o Macro (Closes 30th October)
o Sports (Closes 10th December)

This way we wouldn't have to search for each one. I realize you'd have to go back as each one closes, and remove the link, but ease of use would help.
