View Full Version : How do I insure my camera gear besides homeowners/rental insurance?

Hi all, been searching through the forum but all the answers I've come up with are to have a rider policy on the homeowners/rental insurance. I don't have a home, live with my parents, and I've been bugging them about how to do that rider policy thing, but so far no reply. I'm going for a trip out of the country in about a month, and would like my gear insured for theft, damage, etc. Any info/advice would be great. :D

Edit: I'm in Southern California btw. I've tried googling "camera insurance" but all I've come up with are UK sites.

Anyone? :cry: Well anyway, searched even more on the forum. Looks like some people have gone with state farm, with the personal articles policy. Will go talk to an agent pretty soon then. Does anyone know if this policy will cover camera equipment if its out of the country?

Some homeowners will auto cover up to a limit. Some needs a "replacement cost" rider. You need to talk to the agent. ;)

Try a rider with your auto company. That's how I have mine. Kinda makes a little sense since I travel with the camera in the car the majority of the time.

Other than Home ownes or Apartemnt insurance,.. the cost goes up significant;y.
Full Photographers insurance as a stand alone covers much much more and costs about 4 to 5 times as much (like $400.000 annually)

I get mine through my NANPA membership and "Chubb" insurance...
