***NOTE: This is crossposted from the main digital forum. If crossposting is a no-no, forgive me, it will not happen again. Did not find any prohabition on it under "Help". Besides, I did want some thoughts on the image - VERY LITTLE manipulaiton - just white balance and a tad smoothing.***

I have a 3 week old 10d using a 28-135 IS lens. The once I put the lens on, I have NOT taken it off. On last nights batch of images, I saw some dark areas in the same place on all images. They are not black, just dark. They do not change with zoom, so I THINK I can rule out some lens problem. (Or can I?)

Is it possible that this is dust already? If so, how did it get in if the lens has not been off of the camera. Is that not a sealed system - for something as large as dust, I mean.

Anyone have a similar experience?

If you look through the lens, off the camera, and you can't see anything there, then it's unlikely to be the lens.
Spots in the lens usually don't show anyway as they are too out of focus.

There is a protective cover to the sensor in the camera and
this is likely to collect dust.

It is possible that Canon were a bit slack with quality control on the 10D.

A friend has had his 10D back to the agents twice in the first month with spots
and a 6 stop error in metering.

Second time he was told that the cover was scratched
and they also replaced the sensor ! Not good.

Spots on the sensor cover would show pale one would think.

Take it back and ask them please to fix it.
Don't fiddle with it yourself.

PS Crossposting is not a crime.
At times people have posted in Share Photos and asked
for a crit.
I have asked them to re-post in Critique, which they have done.
Then we are free to advise.

I've had dust spots like these and they turned out to be specs of dust that had attracted themselves to the sensor.

I've taken my10D into Canon a couple of times to get them to clean it but have taken to doing itmyself now.

You normally won't be able to see them with the naked eye but I bought a magnifying glass and you can usually spot them with that.

A light blow off a bubble blower will work.
