I gotta change that number to something more personalized...someday when I can think of what I can change it to.

oh and I have nothing planned for weekends except for church on sunday afternoons cause I sing in the choir.

Okay Ryan.. thanks for the link... I looked at your stuff last night. The bride is very cute! Nice smiles she gave you. I'll have to check back to see your progress.

I was looking at your other stuff, and we need to do a practice session on Steve with his Sax... that would be so cool! I can envision taking him to someplace like westgate or Dc Ranch Marketplace ....and doing some urban stuff with him leaning up against the wall playing his sax.. no sunglasses though.. we can get funky angles and do different poses... would he be up for it? It'd be really cool.. then we can make them black and white's with a warm tone... sooo cool! And if you want to bring Sara along, we can play with natural light in her eyes and you'll be blown away. Sound like fun?

Hi Guys. The enrollment for the Lighting Seminar has been much slower than expected. Anything you can do to get the word out or any ideas, give me a call. My number is 480-202-0773. If you get my message center just hang up and call back in a few minutes. I really hope we can do this without costing Scott money, I've offered to pay for the room rental if there are not enough people. Anyone with contacts in the Wedding community would also help. Thanks in advance.

Ooh, that would be so fun. I'm sure I can convince Steve to go...he told me that after the wedding he doesn't have much to do for awhile now. He's usually up for some pics. Haven't talked to Sara in awhile. but yeah, i will definitely reconnect with her sometime soon cause I still want to photograph her as well. but yeah, let me know if you want to do this. I'm sure we could make this happen. :-)

Okay, so you check with them to see... and we can try to find a date... It would be best to do it in the morning like 9-ish... since it's getting hot and the sun will be bright... But with the covered shade, we can get some cool shots and nice catchlights...

Here's one of my daughter from a couple weeks ago.. I don't know if you can see in the reduced image size, but the catchlights here are amazing... and I didn't PP the eyes at all... just sharpened the entire thing some and converted to b&W... this was at westgate.. I think Sara's eyes will be amazing... :)

ooh, nice photo. I think I've seen it before. westgate is private property right? Anyways, just sent the two of them a text so I'll find out later when they can do a photoshoot with us :-) I just hope we can do it before the 19th so I don't have to go around on crutches then. :-P

Very nice shot Kristy. The eyes are amazing!

Just returned from the Hassayampa Preserve... a few shots posted in the macro forum. A great day for butterflies. I sure am glad I live 30 miles from the place...otherwise I would be there every single day. LOL

If anyone else is interested, let's try to make a date of it... Would be fun as long as our models don't mind....

This is actually a new photo that I took a couple weeks ago.. I posted it on the forum today.. It's a little dark... I need to do some work on it still.. but there's something about it that I really love.. I'm definitely blowing it up to 16x20 for my wall...

So keep me/us posted... I should be able to do the wekend of the 16th without a problem. I'm supposed to get my haircut that weekend, and I might have a maternity session. The weekend after that (23rd) I should be doing a newborn in California.... she's not born yet, but I'm guessing she will arrive next week.. I want to get her photos in before she hits the 2 week mark... the earlier the better.. :) Okay, I'm rambling..

So ask them if we can have a group session with them.. do you think they'll give us releases to use/post the images? We can promise to send them copies of the files for free...

Whose interested??

haha, I will find out if they are interested in this type of thing. But I am not 100% positive but I think they will do it. Sara didn't mind having her photo taken was okay with me posting them online as you've seen a couple already posted here and on my flickr. Steve I think might be interested. i'm usually in contact with him so I'll know fairly soon about him. :-)

I like the bees! You're getting pretty good with the 100 macro.

BTW, I got my Kinesis bag. I like the 500 in it. I'm still on the fence about the 300. You need to see it for yourself.

Thanks, the 100mm is very nice. I had a feeling you would rethink the bag for the 300mm.

I'm heading out the door and about to logg of now, call me on the cell and I will gladly look at the bag. Been itching to see that bad boy.

She had great skin to start with. I used a very small tweak with Kodak Digital Airbrush Pro, then converted to B&W and added a slight sepia tint.

I went there with a few girlfriends a couple years ago... we usually stay on this side of town because no one wants to drive home... Anyway... it was at Arizona Center I think..?? I forget. We had a BLAST! You'll have fun... call a cab.... :)

Oh and after that we went to an after-hours club at Polly Esthers... is it still there? IT was a crazy rave kind of party... not my scene, but it was interesting to say the least... we had fun and rolled home sometime after 3:30am that night.. I think it was a bachelorette party, but I forget.. I was soooo tired the next morning when my baby woke me up at 6:00.... be glad you don't have that to worry about.. yet.

As of right now i'm going. It's still early in the day and my furnaces could take a dump any time (kind of like Kristy's pooch and I'm not disappointed she didn't take any pics of it). I plan to take just my 100mm macro and flash (attached to camera, of course).

I hope Hatch is. (hint) I need some serious macro lessons. I was going to ask if I could tag along :) I will be there at 0700. I will be glad to help Adam :) My plan is to shoot all natural light with the 100mm macro and the 20mm extension tube...maybe the 36mm tube as well. I love the look of natural light shots.

Tammy... if you bring the Mp-e65 out... the damselflies are pretty easy to shoot... and the tiny butterflies... you will have a blast.

Suggested items to bring:
$5.00 entrance fee
WATER (over 100 degrees out by 10 am)
Long pants ... along the river I found a "trail" LOL where the butterflies were landing on the thistles. The weeds are tall...
Good durable shoes/boots... sandy trails...
maybe a small towel to dry off with... the river and weeds=humidity

Right at the entrance you will see a dozen or so hummingbirds at the feeders...flying back and forth to the trees in the area.

Down by the river and pond for the birders...ducks, blackbirds with red feathers...I came across 2 egrets.

I'd love to be wade out in the water if that was allowed. The frogs sound really cool in the morning. I would love a photo of them.

First thing along the path...hundreds/thousands of funnel web spiders... should make for a fun macro trip.

I haven't made it through every trail in the Preserve... the main 2 trails are easy walking.

Just some thoughts :) I will see you all out there...red Altima.

The river is maybe 10 inches deep and 20 feet wide in some places... very shallow.

The pond is about 2 acres in size... duck weed all over...cat tails... the animals dig it. LOL I wouldn't swim in it.

What, your still living with mom and dad  ? Are you 21 years of age yet? I take back everything I've ever said about drinking and partying. You need to spend your Friday nights safe at home drinking cold milk and juices. Yeah that's what I meant. ;)

Thank you Tammie for making my day. The Mp-E65 is an amazing tool...so sharp and the twin lights rocked.

Here are a few shots from the trip. I have many more to work on. F/16 brought out all the details to include all the EVIL sensor dust. Spot healing tool is all but worn out in Photoshop. LOL

Thanks again all for the day out... so nice to be around people who enjoy photography.

Adam... my ears are on fire! LOL So glad you like the shots. The MP-e65 was so much fun to shoot. I could have stayed there all day shooting. The end results are amazing! I think a monopod or bean pole would have helped with the 5x shots. I only had a few come out. Composition on them were not so good. The limited DOF is a bear to work with.

Again, very nice to meet you all. I hope we can meet up again in the near future.

Hatch, I was really excited to see your shots after chimping on your LCD. They did not disappoint. The detail in those eyeballs are amazing.
Adam, gotta love that spider eyeing that poor little ant. I saw the same beetle you got in your last shot, but mine was how shall I put it...out of focus poo poo.
Kristy, you did a great job with the 100mm macro! I think the OOF colors in the background look pretty with the yellow flower.

These were both shot with natural light and cropped just a little bit. I decided to share the miner bee and beefly. I got shots of a half dozen different types of butterflies, but I'm not thrilled with any of them. I used about f9 to get the antenae in focus, so the background is not as smooth as these where the background stuff was farther away.

Kristy,

I think you did great for your first time shooting the 100mm macro. I really like the butterfly and the damselfly photos. Thank you for letting me shoot with the 24-70L. The images are tack sharp!!! Very little processing needed straight from RAW. The colors/contrast are wonderful. It is right on top of the "must have” list.

Tammie,

Thank you so much for letting me use the lens combo. I was in shock when I opened a few of these photos. The details are stunning!!! Please let Russ know I will "Rock, Paper, Scissor" him for the setup. :) LOL Looking back... I should have gone to my car and grabbed the monopod for a little extra stability. I had a couple turn out at over 4x... but... I had many which had slight motion blur to them. I can't thank you enough. Now... flip the coin and buy the 65/flash combo or the 24-70L??? LOL

I will post a few more shots here in a bit. It is taking me a little longer to work the images this time around... shooting at f/16 with the 65...EVERY speck of sensor dust shows in the photos. What a nightmare! Time to get the camera serviced. :)

I had a blast and it was great to meet you all. I hope we continue to shoot more together. Everyone is so talented and I know we can learn more from one another as time goes on.

Have a fun week.

IMO, 65 MPE is a luxury that's fun to have. You'll make more money from the 24-70.

Ain't sensor dust a royal PAIN?

I've had a really fun time with all of our get togethers. We'll need to schedule something and bring out the big glass. Geoff wanted a try with Russ's sigma 300-800. I'll bring my 500 and Mike can bring his new 300 2.8. Anyone got a spare Sherpa?

I had a peek at your Hassayampa gallery. I'm 99.9% sure of the following...
Tiny_butterfly_9 is a Marine Blue
Tiny_butterfly_2 is a Fatal Metalmark
Large_butterfly_9 is a Pipevine Swallowtail
Large_butterfly (same one Kristy posted) is a Viceroy
Large_butterfly_4 (the white one) is a Checkered White
Skipper_2 is a Fiery Skipper
You got some killer shots (I'm 100% sure of this)!

Thank you for the info about the insects. I will go back and give them proper titles.

I have to agree the 24-70 would be the better choice. But... the 65 was so much fun!!! LOL

I would love to go out and shoot the long glass. I will be the pack mule if you need some help. LOL

Here are a few more shots. The crazy fly on the bottom of Adam's 5d came out pretty decent.

I find the detail in the insect eyeballs just fasinating. The shot of the skipper eyeball showing the facets and pollen grains is super.

Maybe it was just too warm for you? I lost more than one shot because of sweet in my eyes.

It wasn't the heat. I went out today to Boyce Thompson and screwed around. My pictures came out fine, so now I can 100% say it was due to the 1.4x extender I used on Sat that messed me up. Thanks Hatch, but the end result with it was not passing. I'll stick with he 100mm and tubes.

Does anyone like Ciff Dwellings? I like this stuff, visited many of them in NM and Mesa Verde which I like the best so far, but was planning on going to see this some time maybe in a month or 2. Thought I'd ask

I'm game. It'll be a nice opportunity to break out some of my lesser used lenses. We could also visit some ruins that are further north to get out of the heat.

I'm still thinking about it, but for the time being I'm happy with the set up I have for now.

Not sure yet if I'm going to be available for it, but that sounds good to me, maybe by then I'll be halfway to a new lens. :)

We missed you this weekend. If you can make the Cliff Dwelling Expedition, I'm sure there will be lenses you can try out.:)

I'm more intrested in the 16-35mm range if I had a FF camera, not to keen on spending 2700 on a camera to be honest. Had to really pull away from that temptation. But if I do go down that path again I think I will try the canon 10-22 so I can have 16-35 on the crop. Had the sigma, but just a bit to much distortion, the canon is a tad better from the sample I took.

Forgot to mention, if you bring it I will glady use it. :)

I'm game also.

An escape from the heat could be to the Sunset crater and Wupatki National Monuments. I've done the crater before but not any of the ruins.

Did you tell Russ about his lead foot? Damn, I thought I drove fast. I will say, however, we both got to I-17 at the same time.

I've been to Montezuma's Castle a long time ago. I've been told the ruins at Walnut Canyon are good to see too. I'm sure if we plan ahead, we can visit more than one in a day.

Like to see Montezuma's Castle again. Last time was with a walgreens disposable in 1998. Now that I'm more into it, you know I have to go back.
