Looks like Ryan had some fun in the mud.... ! :) Is that your jeep or a friends? Who washed it when you were finished... or did you leave it dirty to impress the girls...
Hey guys... I'm struggling with this photo that I want to frame.. If you want to give your 2-cents, have a look here and let me know.... http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=4011142#post4011142 I'm not sure about the crop/framing, and the fact that the lens distortion makes the buldings look crooked at the outer edges... but Ray likes it, and would like to hang it... so..... ????

I think your final gallery print style works just fine. As for the way things seem to lean, that's perfectly natural for "the 'burgh..." :D

Wish they'd have put the 16-35 on that list but c'est la vie...
[EDIT] And in a weird sense of irony, Canon Canada does have the 16-35 MkII on THEIR list of rebates. That does it, I'm defecting to Canada!!!

You are so right... :) My husband's mom and brother live there.. and we've been there at least 4 times... I've yet to get a chance to ride up that incline. I always want to, but there's never enough time. I"m lucky to just grab a few shots here and there... We were out on my brother-in-law's boat one day so I was lucky to get the stadium and the fountains... had we not been on the boat, I don't think they would have happened. Poor qualilty though.. not as sharp as I'd like...
The city is so amazing with all the bridges and brick work and side streets winding around made of 100-year old brick... I could spend a week just photographing the citiy. It'd be hard to explain to the family why I would not be visiting them though.... of course I could shoot all day and meet them for dinner.. hmmm?? A trip may be scheduled for next year.. The mother-in-law wants to see us. Blah, Blah, Blah.... I talk too much. :)

Russ was really thrilled to see the bobcat, but at the same time he was hoping it would come out into the open and stand in better light. :D We had a lot of fun. Lots of stuff to photograph.
Geoff, thanks for leting me use the 180 macro. It is sharp and the color and contrast are really good. Photos hardly needed any tweaking. I was surprised how well the hand held shots came out.
The Sleepy Yellow Sulphur was taken with my 100 macro with the 1.5 life size converter. The hopper being eated alive by ants was with Geoff's 180 macro (hand held). I should have moved the stick and stopped down more. Oh, well. I'll have to continue drooing over Geoff's lens. I paid for half of my nieces wedding gown so I have to save more money.:(

Wish I could have joined you but I'm stuck waiting to find out to which city I'll be going for MLB playoff coverage (dayjob in Sports TV .. not as a photog...)
I'll be out for roughly 21 days (through the NLCS) but may get to work at home if my crew decided to do any of the DBacks games.
I hope to be able to at least lurk provided our hotels / TV Trucks have internet.

Nope, not FSN...TBS.
They have the entire Divisional Round then FOX gets the ALCS and TBS gets the NLCS. FOX is doing the entire World Series but I figure that if they haven't called me already, they probably have their crew already lined up. Tha's ok by me. More time off before the BCS and Superbowl roll around then it's straight to Daytona for NASCAR.
I'm praying like heck that my producer wants to do AZ Vs Cubs and then for an AZ Vs SD NLCS. That would make my travel sooo easy plus I'd get to sleep in my own bed for most of both series!!
As for "after May," that would put me four months deep into the NASCAR on FOX season.

Please let us know if you will be attending. I shall attempt to keep the page up-to-date (http://www.azphoto.info/calendar/10062007.htm)on the AZPOTN (http://www.azpotn.com)site.

Steve, the one on the right looks great, reminds me of Wild Bill from old tin types I have seen, great processing!
Here are some I did over the weekend, big thanks to Kristy for letting me come over to her house and letting me use her lights and everything else, plus instructing me on poses and angles, and pretty much everything else. Thanks to Steve also for helping with the lighting and holding the reflector, and telling me to hurry up and focus before Delaney moved or started crying!!!!

Great shots Steve and Jake.. I was hoping you'd post something soon Jake. I love the basket shots... so cute! Here's my take on the selective color.. When doing b&W, be sure to bump the curves and levels to bring detail.. whenever you remove color, you have to compensate and create many variations of shadow and highlight to bring dimension.. I always add a warm tone to mine also.. It's just the way I like them.
Delaney such a beautiful baby. I'm glad I was able to help you out and shoot a little with you. It was weird at the end of the day to not have any images to look at.. :)
Happy Day!! and here's my quick edit to show you a little variation. It looses something when saving for web, but you get the idea.... Let me know if I can help.. :)

The event was at Pioneer Village (3rd Annual Wild Western Festival), which is located just north of Carefree Highway off of the 17. I used the 70-200 (brought the 24-105 but was too dusty to change lenses). The close-up is of DR Buchanan 'Buck' who put on the event. It was interesting but the heat (very little shade) and dust were an issue.
Jake - I was happy to help, shooting babies is really different than what I normally shoot (although some people I've shot were as fussy)! I really like the skin tones of Delaney so I wouldn't convert to b/w.

My weekends are pretty much filled up from now until the middle of November. If I can swing something I will.. I'll keep checking back in with you guys...
Hey Jake... how's the editing coming along? I'm so curious to see what you got. :)
I am just sitting down to start some editing, this week has been a little busy with the inlaws in town. I will post a link when i get them up on my shutterfly acct.

Nice shot Jake. The only thing which is a matter of taste/opinion... is how the flower catches the eye before the baby. I find the bold color distracting. I liked the version Kristy worked on with the faint pink. Selective color shots can be awesome as long as they do not take away... but contribute to the subject in the photograph. Again... this is just my opinion... take it as you will :) I think you did a great job for your first baby session.
Looking forward to more shots. *** I found more LOL***

I like this shot. The angle and the sense of security in the photo makes the shot for me. Well done!

How do you add that warm tone? It almost looks like there is a hint of red in the pic you edited? do you do the B&W conversion or just start taking color out untill you get what you like?
Hatch- I see what you mean about the flower being in color, my wife's grand parents and parents have all wanted the B&W with the color flower (it was the first one they had printed!) so it was kind of an ego booster to have a response like that when i just taught myself to work with layers and get that result the day before they saw it.

Hi... :)
On the image I edited... I used the hue/saturation on an adjustment layer.. Click the "colorize box". and top slider around 27-29, middle slider around 7 or 8. Then reduce the opacity of the layer to 92% which allows just a teensy bit of the original skin tone to show through. Then on the adjustment layer, paint with a very low opacity and a soft brush... I painted the flower, cheeks, and lips, just a touch... it basically allows the original color to show through a little bit more in the areas that you paint. I think the brush has to be black, but I can't remember for sure.. It's a new thing I've been doing.
Then I addd another adjustment layer called "color balance" to warm it up some more.. it's set around top slider+5, bottom slider-5. You can play with the warm tones and adjust them to your liking. This is just what I've decided I like. :)

Had a very nice time at DBG! Very nice and cool. Was not aware of Picasso interest in pottery. Everything was behind glass/plexiglass with lots of reflections. Might have gotten some snap shot quality  .... Lots of nice monarchs, and of great interest a nice spider Adam found. Have not had a chance to review pix yet, very busy day and evening. Card still in the camera! Stopped at a couple of Camera emporiums to take a look at the 40D among many other things. Nice! And now off to work.
No, did not pick up the 600mm yet. Is very tempting, but could get a nice camping trailer for the same price!

LOL about the 800. It looks huge! I've read a few dozen posts on Fred Miranda's site... the speculation about the 200's price is from $3500-$5000. It will be interesting to see how much it will be when it is first released. I know the 200 f/1.8 is in the $4k range at the moment. Time to save more pennies.... the 200 f/2 would be wonderful to have.

Never been, but I think Patagonia is on our "to do" list. We need to make a trip to Sedona soon enough.. I want to shoot Slide Rock now that it isn't filled with people trying to escape the heat.... Wonder how long the "Fall Colors" will linger there? Anybody know?
I would love to go to sedona I have never been there, however they say its very beautiful anytime of the year.

i was trying to look that up yesterday, found a webcam site and everything still looked pretty green, it wasn't very good, it is at: http://www.sedonavision.com/
it was the only live feed I could find, couldn't find anything about when the leaves are changing colors though. Anyone know when the best time to see that would be?
Well our seasons are always off, so that works out in my favor since I've got a few busy weekends ahead of me.. :) Glad it's still green. Maybe fall will begin in December. I'm looking at my calendar.... Maybe the first weekend in December would work? Like the 1st or 2nd?
Anyone wanna ear mark it as tentative?

You should definitely go then. I went last summer.... in July or August... It was gorgeous. I took the family there so didn't get to hike around as much as I had hoped, but I did get some cool shots anyway. :) The slide rock area looks amazing.. could be some fun shooting there. :)

that would be fun...except I have reading week the following week and Holiday Dinner performances all that weekend. most of my projects are usually due at that time...omg only 7 weeks left in the semester for me. I will see daylight soon. after the second week in december I should be available for some photo fun.

hey, what do you guys think: the sigma 70-200 2.8 or just save for the canon 70-200 2.8? I'd post on the lens site but I've read it all. just wanted to know what my az peers thought about it. :-)

Buy what you can afford, but I'm sure you want the canon. So, buy it already.

FWIW, went to Jerome/Sedona today and I'd say the vegitation was:
- 1/2 Leaves Still Green
- 1/4 Leaves With Fall Color
- 1/4 Leaves Gone Already
http://www.pbase.com/flyingphotog/jerome - Last three at the bottom are new from today...
