I am looking at purchasing the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L EF USM for $559.95 or the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 EF IS USM for $449.95. I plan mainly to use the lens for people shots (from a distance) and cycling events.

Does anyone have examples to show from either of these choices? I have not used zooms over 100mm before and I concerned that trying to hand hold a 200mm or 300mm might prove to be difficult. Any pictures, thoughts, or suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

Cannot comment on a direct comparison because I haven't used the 70-200. I used to have the 75-300 IS, but got rid of it because I wan't happy with the quality of the images with my D30. I have a few images with the lens on my gallery, although glacier pictures are the best for judging the lens:

By chance I was just looking at the Photodo site; the 70-200 gets a _MUCH_ better rating - vs 4.1 vs 2.9 - although it is for the Mk 1 version.

If I had your choice I would go for the L glass, but I'm saving for the f/2.8 IS version of that lens. :) However, to be fair, the IS did work well on the 75-300.

Regards,

Roger
