Here are a few more shots that may be a little more balanced. Composition still may be a little off. Again, comments and suggestions are welcome - how else can I improve?

#1 is ok I suppose but too much in my face. Pardon the pun.
#2. Very nice. I'm not sure if the pink jacket she is wearing works though. Easy to change. I believe it brings one focus too much towards the flowers and not the child. I crop would help here also. I might take some off the left and top to bring the focus to the child. After removing the left in a crop a little off the bottom just above her hand would balance things out.
#3 &4. The center comopistion doesn't work well and her hand being in her face is a distraction.
They are all qute photos and definately keepers.

I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of touching up a photo.
Cropped, auto contrast, and a 42% diffusion.

These are excellent photos of a beautiful little girl. I especially like numbers 2 and 4.

The pictures #3 and #4 are of a bad composition:
1) main object should not be situated in the centre of picture
2) where are feet in #3?
3) the trunk behind the girl's head is a common composition error: never let plants grow out of your children's heads :)

I agree with arccos completely in what is said to improve the shots.
and with conk as regards 'too much' in our faces in the first shot
conk.
your shot is not showing here, for me anyway

I actually like the first shot. it reminds me of a commercial, or photo diary. great shot
the second is decent, but i cant place what makes it decent instead of great. either way very nice
The third would be great, it just that the rule of thirds would come in handy. The picture to me would have much more impact if the girl was at the far left end, instead of the center.
hope that helps.
good try on all of them!!

#2: The second is limited by the dying flowers -- they just do not wash.
# 4: The 4th is limited by the lost pose.
# 3: The third is perfect:

Except that we have to crop it a bit differently and clone out the street sign Once done you have a very, very fine portrait.
Here's what I suggest:

Thank you all for your very helpful comments. I have started to pay far more attention to both the composition and the histogram of the images. I've also realized that its ok to crop the image to make it more pleasing to the eye. For some reason I kept going along thinking that the entire shot had to be just right. Its also interesting to hear the widely varying comments on the same images. In all, very helpful. I'm grateful. I'll be sure to post more as I take them or from my archive if I think they meet my new criteria.
