Nice looking horse. Only nitpick I can see is the fencing isn't quite level. Unless my eyes are messing with me.

Very impressive! She did great! What type of filter, if any, did she use to make the sky's gradient blue?

It is a very photograph, I don't see a problem with the fence either. She has composed it well, picking an interesting subject. Well done.

I love it. The composition is cool. Nothing detracts from the horse. It's well balanced :D
Great first shot. Way better than I ever did

Nice composition, but one of it's feet is not white.

Love the sky. It speaks of wide open spaces and tantalizing views. And the narrow strip of brushland below the sky and above the top of the fence. Combine those, and it's no wonder the horse is looking over the fence. I would be too. Far more intriguing outside the corral than in, what? The fence level also did not bother me in any way.

And the lens?

Very nice!
I'd say keep the girlfriend, but if she comes with a horse she's gonna be expensive to have around. ;)

hey thanks alot
and yes his feet are very dirty lol
and i will have a mess around with them in photoshop when i have some time
theres a few things i want to change
the shot wasnt really setup just a quick shot, which is why hes still wearing his head collar, which i will try and remove, or she'll re-shoot
i fixed the break in the fence quickly
ill have a better crack at it tomorrow
she said thanks very much for the comments
shes really chuffed

Well, it's a riding horse inside a corral. All is as it should be. If you're going to remove the halter, you might as well remove the fence!

And the lens?

I like the halter and the fence - gives a sense of looking wishfully out.

Precisely. A shot of the horse sans halter and fence would be a very cool shot, but also a very different shot that would convey a different message.

i never thought of it that way
thanks for the insight
and the lens was the 100mm 2.8 macro

I agree with staciecd and steve, the shot is depicting exactly what you'd expect it to be :)

For a quick unstaged snap, it's perfect. Even with the hole in the fence. There is such a thing as too perfect a picture.

again thnks again for all the messages
my gf is so chuffed hehe She's lucky she gets to play with a 1D MKII, chuffed all round, I would say ;)

I rather like this photograph. And thats exactly what it is ...vs. a picture.....a nicely composed photograph with nice exposure, detail and colors. The wonderful sky and fringe over the fence makes the viewer wonder what it is the horse can see so there is an element of mystery adding to the shot. First time shot?........Very Nice!!

Thats a great shot, so simple yet so powerful.

No offense, but I'd liken that shot to a prison inmate sitting on his bunk staring up and out his barred window. Both share a similar message, depending on how you look at it. :)
