I was happy with this one technically. I shot it handheld, with my 10d and the 100-400mm lens at the 400mm setting (thank you IS!). What do you all think of it artistically and/or technically??

It is a remarkable photo of a difficult subject, well done! Have you tried cropping it to enlarge the bird and thistles?

Yes. It crops pretty nicely -- but some of the thistles run off the top of the page in some of the crops. I couldn't decide which I liked better. The crop does place the hummingbird more in the "rule of thirds" spot though.

Wow! they are so hard to get a picture of... its like a dragon fly but faster!

As Pappy said, excellent photo of a difficult subject.
I would do a crop also, top and right. It does seem a slight bit over exposed where the light hits the green. Maybe you could fix that in PS.

Superb photo, and a great job, man u must be a Terminator or something handholding at 400mm to get a shot like that!!

Do you mind sharing the exif details?

Here is the exif info. This was my first field trip with a digital camera -- the ability to switch ISOs was a lifesaver for this shot! And I almost forgot that I could change it!
