It would be useful to know if theses are cropped at all - or if they have been sharpened. It's difficult to tell without that information.

Are there actually copies of that lens, which are not sharp? I don't recall that anybody has ever complained about it.

To those who own a 5D/Mk II (esp the Mk II), how does this lens hold up on FF? Do you find that the 5D I/II can overcome the lack of IS on this lens with the better ISO performance?

Nice shots Tim - where is it?

Thanks, Roy.

The first two are from the ferry boat on the "Norway in a Nutshell"
trip that the Norwegian Rail System (NSB) runs.
Western Norway. :D:D

The last one is from San Mateo County coast, California.

I have since sold the lens, and am using the f/2.8 non-IS version instead.
Both are very good.

My friend photographer upgraded from 40D to 5Dmkii and managed to take perfectly good shots in church (hand-held) with 70-200 f/2.8L (non-IS) at ISO6400. Before he would have needed to use the IS version in that situation. I'm hoping the 70-200 f/4L would work well on a 5Dmkii because I don't like the size/weight/cost of 70-200 f/2.8Ls!

Here is one from when I first got the lens. And also a link to some crops of a comparison I did. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=333670

I posted this same thing in a new thread also.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I just got my EF 70-200 f/4 L (non-IS) Thursday night and yesterday was the first opportunity that I got to spend a few minutes with it. I upgraded from the EF 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 USM and while I enjoyed that lens quite a bit I have to admit that there is no comparison. The L is in an entirely different league. My keeper ratio went through the roof with this lens. Focus seems to be dead on, the color are awesome, and I am seeing things that I didn't see before. I am still going to do a full blown comparison between the two lenses sometime this week but for now I have to show this shot.

I shot these 2 sundays ago at about 5:00pm, it was still very bright, but the sun was at a nice height for shadows. All hand held at a shutter speed of 320th sec. I was bike riding so no tripod, and just found them all sun bathing and a cycle track by a river!!

I always have trouble getting my dog sharp when he's running.
What mode were you shooting in?
I might be wrong but in sports mode the camera focuses on a moving object, so if you were panning it would be trying to focus on the background and not the object you're following.

Anyone, please correct me if I am wrong on this.

handheld. If your outside in the daytime, your shuterspeed is well beyond using a tripod.

I rarely use a tripod (with all my lenses) with the 70-200 I sometimes will use a monopod but with proper light you dont need it.

I know this is a random shot of nothing, but let me explain: this is the very first photo I ever took with this lens. Straight from the camera, no pp. I met someone in front of a bookstore to buy it, and wanted to take a test shot first, to make sure it worked. Needless to say, once I saw how sharp this pic was, I happily gave the guy my money! This is a great lens for the price! (I took this with a Rebel XT)

This lens doesn't do well for indoor sports. I used it to shoot my niece's basketball game and not one shot was worth a darn. Very disappointing but to be expected from an f/4 lens I guess.

Shot indoors under some very harsh lighting.
f/4 - 1/40 - ISO1000

I noticed that I'm getting signifcantly better at hand-holding this sucker.
To get maximum stabilization, I use my hand grip for my right hand and wrap my left hand around the barrel. I plant my right elbow next to the right side of my ribs and dig the left elbow on the opposite side and position my body 90 degrees from the subject. From there, I exhale and snap the shot.

Plus, I don't have much caffeine intake :D

just picked up this lens last night, brand new locally.

My first impressions: very solid build, great focusing rings, super silent focusing, and fast focus.

My impressions after the first pic: I took the first picture in the lobby of his apartment complex, with decent light, ISO 100, and the shutter speeds were too slow but it is an f4 so i kinda expected that. Super super sharp, excellend contrast and color, i guess the copy is a good one.

Brought it home, took some more shots, and im very impressed. I know im going to be limited to many situations, so i have a feeling this bad boy is gonna be up for sale very soon...
