Heya,
I'm thinking of buying a PD70X. Does this work as an external HDD aswell? I want to stick in a 300GB  HDD in there and keep my photos there. However, I'm a little weary of having a HDD on the go, seems like it can easily corrupt.
Can you store other things on the HDD besides photos? Use it as an HDD, backup system files etc?
Thx

Yep. You can use it for an external HDD aswell, but remember that it takes laptop hdd so im not sure about your 300gb hdd idea! :) It's really fast when copying from CF->HDD but i find mine slow when copying from HDD->HDD. Furthermore (as far as i remember) it won't allow AC adapter connection while being used as a external HDD. So I wouldn't recommend it for anything else than a portable picture storage device! I use mine when travelling with a 60gb harddrive and I'm very pleased. Because i often travel the backpack way i use a Lexan Pelicase to protect the device.

I have PD70X. It works well as a PSD.
But I would say you can use it as an external HDD, but it doesn't take power from USB. So you will have to use batteries (but it will run for about 1 hour with a half only), or you will have to take AC adapter every time.
So, I would say, you can use it as external HDD. But it's not so convenient as plain cheap USB enclosure.
OLZ, I can power the unit using AC adpter while unit is connected to USB. Is it wrong? :) I don't remember the manual....

I'm not sure at all, but i don't think it will charge while connected to a PC. Anyhow it's not recommended to use it as a external hdd because it's very slow to transfer files to a pc. As you say it's better to just buy a cheap USB enclosure. I can only recommend this PSD but unfortunately it's not good as a external hdd.

Yes, right. I would say speed is OK. But portablility is not so good...
It looks like as soon as I connect USB cable the charging sign on LCD is disappearing.
