Can you please explain how come the exif on the second photo says FL 135 FN 2 ? In the 24-105 mm thread ?

Uh, yeah, I can explain. I pulled two photos that I thought were shot with the 24-105 and I was incorrect on one of them. Is that enough of an explanation? The original post has been edited. Thanks for the heads-up post, despite its tone.

Phil

yeah PP is a strong contrast and def some tuning of the vibrance (at the office right now, don't have the Lightroom settings on me). color curve played its role too.

here's another one from antelope canyon (also 50D+24-105L):

One thing I have found with Antelope Canyon shots is that close ups tend to reveal the rough worn textures of the stone, making the images real but unappealing to the eye, however subjective that may be. This is not unlike the difference between looking at a painting from a distance versus scrutinizing it up close.

The really dramatic and impressive shots are generally taken from a farther distance which smooths out these textures allowing the overall caramel and taffy canvasses to become the central theme as opposed to the surface roughness revealing the ravages of time and erosion.

An example can be seen here: http://www.gcollier.com/Antelope-Canyon-Arizona.html

Thx Sean! Yes, I did bump up fill lighting as much as I could without blowing out the whites where they merge into darks. I'll have to look into techniques of adding fill to selected areas. Cheers.

B-Stock can refer to something that was used and returned like an open box, refurbished or more typically blemished in some way that does not interfere with functionality like a scratch or scuff some where. Anything that will prevent an item from being sold a new.

This is from the Canon company store though some arrangement with my employer. The brochure claims that they're unused with cosmetic defects.

Refurbs: 20D with 18-55 is 499, 40D+28-135 is 799, XSi kit is 499, 70-300 IS USM is 423 (apparently a lacklustre lens), 75-300 III is 120 (apparently sucks hard), a few lower-end EF lenses and some few EF-s ones that I can't use (Nikon found a way, Canon -- why couldn't you?) Lots of P&S stuff, print supplies etc. at or near retail prices but that 24-105 price jumped out and slapped me about the face and neck. I'm tempted to buy one and sell my month-old from Canoga. I frantically paged through the rest of the brochure looking for 24-70's or 70-200's to no avail. Wish they had a 40D refurb at a good price sans kit lens, would be nice to have a cropper. Curiously the Rebel T2 is offered with the 28-90 III for $79. Maybe I'll get an EOS waterproof flashlight for $6 just because I can. The EOS Rebel *football* is a bit odd.

Makes me wonder why they have a bunch of 24-105 blems to clear out at that price -- it's the only attractive deal in the bunch (no, I can't purchase them for resale). Some manufacturing glitch that took out a whole batch? Maybe they say "Cannon" on them or something.

My guess is that Canon's lens factory/factories set up their assembly lines in a rotating fashion and switch from model to model as needed.

Either that or they're going to replace it already.

I bought mine last month from Canoga, only place I could find it in stock. Been tempted to sell it so I can get a 24-70 instead.

I hope it's the second one. I would love to be able to say i'm saving up for a 24-105 2.8 IS

Heh! Have you ever lugged the 24-70 f/2.8? If so, imagine it longer and heavier, as well as more expensive by quite a bit, and you'd have an f/2.8 24-105.

I do enjoy using a 24-70 for certain shoots, but the big reasons I like the 24-105 for my main walk-around lens include lightweigh/portable. Of course the IS helps, etc, etc.

I rented a 24-70 -- didn't seem all that much different to lug than the 24-105.

Yeah, it is strange how some people find it too heavy, and others don't seem to mind.. It must all be in the mind.

Burnaby

What tonylong is implying is if the 24-105 was available with a f2.8 aperture, it would be a monster compared to the current f4 lens.

I understood what he said. I was talking of the 24-70..

I think the 24-105 is the perfect weight, not too heavy not too light. Although, which one would i rather have? That's a different question :)

I initially got the 24-105 in part because of the reports of the 24-70 being such a brick. I'm not a big muscular kinda guy so I figured it would be too heavy for me for sure. I guess were I hefting it for hours on end it might be.

It's interesting -- I had the 24-70 before I had the 24-105 (I was shooting with the 30D) and it was one of my least-used lenses.

I got the 24-105 as a kit lens with my 5D Classic and it became, outside of special wildlife/sports uses (taken with a 1D3 body), my most-used lens (used pretty exlusively with the 5D). After that, it's a close tie between the 24-70, the 16-35, the 85L, the 100 macro, and the 50 1.4.

I bought 24-70 first and it was my first L and i still love it a lot, and i bought 24-105 because i got very great price that time so tempting and i couldn't resist, now my 24-105 is the most #1 used lens in my collection even i love 24-70 more.
