@Jeff81,
Very cool landscapes:)
Those w/ the 50D? They look wider than that.
Thx. My sig is deceiving...they were taken with a 5D2, which I recently had to sell due to a need for cash. :(

Yea you could have, that was taken at 1/100 sec, 24mm. But the IS does really come in handy at slower SS's.
Very good lens IMO. My copy is sharp even at f/4. The only downfall is the distortion at the wide end if your shooting architecture.

For me, f/5.6 is a very good "creative use" aperture -- it combines a workable depth of field with a nice amount of OOF blur for this lens:

Really cool shots. I like the first one very much. Great contrast, and so clear!

I am debating over the 24-70 and this lens. Already owned a 24-70 and traded it off and now I am wanting another zoom so I am back to the age old "which lens" debate. Either one looks fantastic.

+1 Toffiloff, nice hdr!
I was in the same boat regarding the lens choice. I went with the 24-105L for the extra reach and IS. I find that even with f/2.8 I don't have enough shutter speed for inside low'ish light circumstances... maybe it's because my almost 4 yr. old son is so quick and non-stop! lol! For low light scenes of still subjects, I get better results with IS lenses than non-is lenses. I'm hoping to rarely need to take this lens off my 5D!

Same here...I weighed the choices and I felt that the IS @ f/4 would be more useful to my needs than the non-IS 2.8, which may not be fast enough in crappy light. Plus, I got a crackin' deal on a brand new 24-105 here on POTN!

I would like to add that the IS is not only good for low light shots and video, but it also invaluable if you would like to take handheld HDR shots (like mine above) without using a tripod. The IS will help the picture stay stable in between the 3 bracketed shots. This is something which in my opinion will be a lot harder to do with the 24-70 (or any other comparable zooms)

Just got this lens today and went for a little walk. Here is one image which I, as well as others posting in this thread, might agree captures what I think of this lens.....Sharp! This is also my first lens with IS. What a nice feature of the lens. The IS makes me a little more comfortable while shooting as the image really stabilizes in the viewfinder, neat.

I realized this lens if purchased alone would be around ~$1200, but if purchased with the 5d mark ii, it only costs $800. So does it make sense to purchase this with the 5d mark ii? I am looking forward to upgrade to full frame, but I am not quite sure if I want the 24-105mm along with it.

Mine came as a kit with the 5D Classic, and I've never regretted it, even though I also own the 24-70. I use each of them in different ways and they both serve well. The IS can make a real difference, especially when I generally prefer to shoot at narrower than f/2.8 apertures.

Absolutely. You can sell it, and make money if you find you don't care for it. But I think that though will pass quickly, especially with full frame. I love mine on the cropper!
