Love this lens for landscapes. The IS really comes in handy when you wan't to stop down without a tripod.

3 shot pano shot with 2 stop ND grad filter, all hand held on a 5d....

Photos really don't show much in my mind as processing, camera control, and light in the scene depicts most of the IQ. I will just say, it is a great lens. In my expierence against my other lens - sharpness is high, focus speed is good, lens flare, vignette, chomatic aberration are all at a minimum.

Thanks. Glad you like it. It helped a lot that it was a very grey rainy day so that there wasn't too much contrast for the camera to record.

I haven't had the occasion to use that lens much since I bought it a couple of months ago (the second half of autumn was a succession of rainy days with very rare exceptions) so I just fooled around with it for the most part but I'm really impressed. It's my first L lens and didn't disappoint.

I used to apply a certain amount of sharpening to my pictures in DPP and then in Photoshop (usm + selective sharpening) but the 24-105 is so sharp that I hardly need to do that anymore. I leave the sharpening on the default setting in DPP and I'm pretty much set except for a bit of selective sharpening aruond the eyes for portraits and such.

I love the colors and contrast it gives and the USM is no slouch for my action pictures either. I almost never use the IS but it's a nice feature to have for when you need it and it works extremely well.

Best thing of all: my bank account is not as empty as it could be since I got a really good deal on it ($600 for a used copy in mint condition. It seriously looked like it had never been used).

I can't wait to test it out more. My contribution to the thread for now:

Horses going home on a cold, windy day:

The Hohneck Inn after the first light snow of the season. I have a 40D and the 24-105 is plenty wide for landscape stuff. It's the perfect range for me:

This is almost a 70% crop and the thing still looks almot too sharp. That was one of the first photos I took with it and I still wasn't used to the sharpening process with this lens.

The 24-105 is quite a piece of glass. It does everything I need and does it well:)

My 24-105 is on my 5D 70% of the time, as is my Dust Pump. The nifty 50's only on there maybe 5%, but the Wigma's there at least 25% of the time

The 24-105 is a great lens. This shot was taken last weekend on a 1D Mk3 and was on 50mm focal length. Exposure was 1/250 @ f13. The harsh light in the snow has given the shot an almost sepia tone look but is virtually as shot apart from a bit of shadow detail and a little sharpening.

I love this lens.

yeh i agree... i think a good middle ground would be to leave the room orange for the firelight and make just the tree lights white for a bit of contrast

its a fine line between keeping a feeling of warmth and an 'obvious beginner' tungsten orange, with indoor lighting

Yeah, there's no mountains in the Netherlands. I've been to the tallest one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/toffiloff/3790873215/), but that's just 300m or so hehe.

I really am looking at this lens to replace my 17-85 in the next few months... I plan to get a 10-22 to cover the wide end when I need it. Outdoors, I rarely shoot below 24mm right now. So it would work well for me!

Allthough the 17-55 is the praised lens for crop, i believe the 24-105 is very well suitable for walkaround purposes on crop. It all depends on shooting style.

I never go under 24mm as i'm walking around, and the times i do want to be under 24mm, i want to be a lot under it... Thats where my 10-22 comes around.

the 17-55 is perfect for people who need a fair amount of wide angle as they 'walk around' other need a fair amount of tele.

My 70-200 is great, but too long as walkaround, my 17-50 is great, but too short.

When I go "putzing" (walkaround) I will real often take my 40D rather than a "business" camera (5D or 1DMkII). If I am going to a family get together or some such I may even take my 10D rather than worry about a camera getting knocked off a table or a drink spilled on it.:(

I will mount the 24-105 on it and that will take care of most of my needs. I will stick my Tokina 12-24 in my jacket pocket or my wife's purse for those occasions I need wider. I have got a great, light travel combo!:D I don't even need to take a backpack if my wife is dragging me around shopping:rolleyes:
