He there, did I read somewhere that the 5DII 24-105L combo was one of those special combinations that seems to work really well? I am starting to consider this lens as an option for something on the wider end. It seems more versatile than the 17-40 in that it goes out to 105. Can anyone offer insight as to the sharpness between the 17-40 and 24-105? This one seems really nice.

Check my flickr for recent 5D2/24-105 Landscapes. People say the 17-40 is softer at the edges. My 24-105 is going to appear in the for sale section of POTN tonight as i just bought the 35L and need to free up some cash. PM me if interested ;)

This lens is perfect on FF. I rarely use it on crop though - that's what the 15-85 is for.

I use my 24-105 on my 5D MII all the time (now the lens is out being repaired). It really is a nice sharp lens and it really gets some great images.

No, just a hobby for the last 7 years. My wife runs marathons, so we usually plan our vacations around them and end up in a few major cities each year. Just a couple of trips outside of Texas each year, last year was just a couple of vacations, Chicago and Orlando. This year will be Dana Point for a wedding in a couple of weeks and Chicago for the marathon in October.

Ah, very similar to us. My wife is big in the literature field, so we go to book/library/history conferences and that makes up most of our "vacations." This year we'll be in NYC, Anaheim, and London, England. I plan to make the most of all three locations for photography.

:lol: No, my 24-105 lens. Got it back today and I must say I think it is working better now than the day I bought it!

I had exactly the same experience. After my lens suffered a mishap in airline travel I had to send it to Canon, and when I got it back it seemed to be clearer and definitely focussed quicker, and more positively in poor light. Seems it's worth sending apparently OK lenses in for calibration.

This is an attempt to recover a bad photo. The lighting was very very harsh. Didn't have any gnd's so I bracketed. The bracketed images suffered greatly from stray light. Anyways, here it is:

Thanks, it was a very fortunate situation. Drove to the beach and it was windy and overcast, very dreary. Just as I was about to give up, the sun popped through and as I was already sitting taking some shots I continued to shoot a couple more and then it was gone again. I was happy to be able to capture this one!
