Here are a few that i shot @ Disney. These were all Hand held with nearly no light......since I took them at night. The last, the witch. was taken while moving on the ride in very very low light. I am very pleased with my 24-105's performance in my not so steady hands/low light conditions!! Everyone should have one!
1. Trying to stop and shoot on the walk way bridge was hard w/so many people.

2.The black stuff in the background is night time! Again hand held.

Since this is a lens specific thread you can check mine out here

Not much, converted in LR; I did use the ND grad tool to tone down the sky some, but the awesome colors that mother nature put in those rocks did most of the work. ;)

By the way, that is smoke in the background; there were "prescribed" fires while we were there.

ha ha ha, I'm actually living in Thailand man. My friend and I drove up north from Bangkok by car, so even if those dumbass closed down the airport then we'd still be ok :p

Anyway, the shot was taken in Mae Hongson province, next to Chiang Mai ;)

No need for much else. :)

Though for events, I'm starting to think of getting a 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8L IS.

But for lightweight general lens use, it's a great combo (the one I mentioned first).

Well, better post a picture:

I like primes, but I find myself restricted for position a lot*, so zooms do me slightly better.

I wouldn't mind getting a second hand 24-70. :)

*often I have to video an event and photograph at the same time. I can't venture far from my video camera tripod in these cases.

I bought this lens yesterday with some money I'd saved up and some money I got for Christmas.

I got home really excited to try out my new 'walkabout' (to replace the kit 18-55 IS) only to find I get "Err 01" on anything other than f/4.0!! Rang the shop straight away and they are getting me a new lens in today.

Off now to take the original back and pick up the new one....still excited, but the shine has been lost a little already - I'm sure that'll all change once I get it home, get it unpacked and get shooting with it.

What was more frustrating is that I did give it a test....probably took about 30 photos, but was testing the IS, zoom & focus and didn't really think to check or change the aperture.

Here are some of the test shots I took with it (@ f/4.0 obviously!)

I'd even taken my laptop so that I could load up the shots and check them for IQ in the shop. I thought I was being thorough but obviously overlooked one of the key functions of the lens. My bad!

Anyway, it's replaced now with a new one.....I finally have myself a nice walkabout lens which works really well as far as I can tell. I'll get some shots with it today.

One question - should the IS be audible? I've never heard it on any of my other lenses, but can clearly hear it 'whirring' away on this lens!

Thanks for that. Always nice to know that it's how it should sound.

I've just double checked my 18-55IS and it's totally silent! My 100-400L does make the same whirring sound though. I'd just never noticed it before because I'd never used it indoors (aka - in a silent environment)

Happy days. :D

Well I've just got back from a quick walk around the park near my house. These are my first shots with the 24-105.

It's -4 and I couldn't find my gloves, so didn't get much chance for many shots before my fingers froze up! I'll need to have a good walkabout when it warms up a little (or when I find my gloves...) I did manage to get a duck shot though...but not a very exciting one.

All shots are pretty much straight off the camera except for a little cropping on the duck & swans.

Thankfully all sorted now - the shop were brilliant, no questions....just a straight swap. They didn't even open the box to see if the lens was in there! (good job I'm honest...)

Thanks for that. Always nice to know that it's how it should sound.

I've just double checked my 18-55IS and it's totally silent! My 100-400L does make the same whirring sound though. I'd just never noticed it before because I'd never used it indoors (aka - in a silent environment)

Happy days. :D

Duck shot to come......

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for this lens? I am also in the UK, and always after a good bargain- this lens is reduced in some places, just wondered what you got it for :)

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Do you mind me asking how much you paid for this lens? I am also in the UK, and always after a good bargain- this lens is reduced in some places, just wondered what you got it for :)
I searched for quite a while and found the cheapest place online was £660 - have a look HERE (http://www.bestpricedbrands.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=481)

Even though it's cheaper, I wouldn't usually buy online just in case there is any problem and I need to send it back...I prefer to buy from shops where I can try it out and take it back if need be without postage costs etc. (as was the case with this lens - which proves my theory correct...I had the replacement in my hands within 24hrs and no postage costs)

I tend to use the online prices more as a 'benchmark' and negotiating point when haggling in shops.

I bought my lens from Jessops who had it advertised for £685. When I got to the store it was reduced even more to £675 and I managed to haggle them down to match the £660 online price. The sales guy told me he wouldn't normally discount this lens any more than it was because they've already reduced it a lot, but because I bought my camera and all lenses from this store he said he would match it as a 'loyalty' thing. My theory is to always ask anyway and keep asking until they say absolutley no way....otherwise you'll never get the discount.

Best of luck getting one....and happy new year.

Nice shots, Mystery Machine!

I'm like totally envious about the swans because I just can't get close enough to the swans that migrate through my area here. I have this ongoing desire for a 600 lens to magically appear without sending me to the poor-house:(!

since this is a sample photos thread... i have some questions (so i know which photo/s to post):

-i'm wondering if my 24-105 is soft(er) or sharp(er) and i guess i should start posting sample photos and include a 100% crop. question: which part of the photo should i crop and post? what settings/focal length?
-if ever i ended up with a soft(er) copy, is there anything that can be done given that i cannot exchange it anymore? i've heard about lens calibration but will calibrating a lens make a soft copy sharp?
-can the camera body also be a limiting factor in softness/sharpness and IQ in general? using a 350D here. thanks!

It is a great copy, don't worry, if you tried it on 5D or 50D and using f5.6 at least going up to f11 then you will see how sharp is lens.

Can someone please post pics taken at the widest focal length using a FF body?

I want to see just how wide 24mm looks on a FF camera.

And a silly question: photo taken at 24mm on a FF body would look the same as one taken at 15mm using a 30D, correct?

Thank you in advance.

We totally got a bad copy with our 5D mk2 at my work. We shoot facing down with the camera parallel to a table with flat rocks on the table. We level everything out so it is a flat focus plane. Our corners are just mush with this lens. I brought in my 50mm f/1.4 and 100mm f/2.8 macro and tested f/4-11 between all three lenses with the 24-105 zoomed in to match the primes.

I've heard from numerous people that the quality control for this lens is just not up to par. If you get a good copy it's great, but the bad ones are crap.

This is the only image I have easy access to right now. It's one I prepared to show my bosses.

I upgraded to this lens before going on my travels on Christmas day I got back yesterday and it was on my 40D 98% of the time.

Still downloading the pics but the pics are looking great....

I would certainly recommend it the 17- 85 was a good learning lens but i have now sold it on :)

If you havent got it already get it and enjoy ;)
