Hi Everyone, *Sorry that this is really long, but if you don't like it, STOP READING! :)

I just wanted to share the links that I used when I was deciding to get the G3. This is aimed mainly for people looking to buy a camera, but there's stuff here for everyone. Enjoy!

Info on the G3

These forums, of course!!:
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/

Canon USA's Official Page:
http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/home.html

Canon Japan's very informative G3 page:
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/PSG3/PSG3_01-e.html

Check out Fotoluxe's printable 'G3 Pocket Guide' here:

Where I shopped around

Price comparison sites:
http://www.pricegrabber.com
http://www.bizrate.com

Stores I looked into more closely:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh3/controller/home
http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/home.asp --Note: I emailed these guys and was never answered... so I didn't buy there.
http://www.buydig.com

I decided to go with bhphoto because I have been told it's a respectable and reliable dealer. Camera price was a little higher than some places though. I also just got the Canon 58mm lens adapter from here to save on shipping costs to Canada.

Lens/teleconverter links I checked out:
--start out by searching these forums for 'teleconverter' or a brand you're interested in... LOTS of info here!
http://kazutoku.cside.com/G3CON_eng.htm --Compares many common G3 lenses
http://www.lensmateonline.com/g3.html --I would have preferred the 58mm lens adapter from lensmate, but cost:$30+$7shipping + $5 brokerage fee to Canada=$42. Whereas $20 Canon lens adapter w/free shipping (since I bought the camera already) from bhphoto changed my mind.

Lens I ended up ordering (I want close-up nature shots, and heard good reviews on the CrystalVue LX8):
http://www.ckcpower.com

Of course, eBay...:
http://www.ebay.ca -yes... I use eBay Canada. :P
Auctions only seemed to have the best prices on Flash Memory when I was looking, not cameras or lens adapters.
I bought a Kingston 256 MB for $41+shipping. I have heard of good rebate deals from Dell, but they may be no good in Canada... and I didn't see any deals on right now.

I also borrowed a Canon Powershot A60 from a guy at work for an evening and tested out the cam. I did not go to any stores in person, because that would involve a minimum 3hour (each way) drive from where I live (in the mountains). I would recommend you go to a store in person if possible though.

******************
Costs:
G3 Camera: $525USD from bhphoto --No duty on camera itself to Canada! Yay!
G3 58mm lens adapter $ 20USD from bhphoto --Up to 5% duty... depending on country of manufacture
Shipping from bhphoto $ 33USD to Canada

256MB Kingston Memory $ 42USD from ocrexpress (Ebay seller) --Up to 5% duty
Shipping from seller $ 12USD to Canada -(WAY more than it costs him, but cheaper than buying here...)

CrystalVue LX8 Lens $190USD from Tom at ckcpower --Up to 5% duty
Shipping from Tom $ 25USD To Canada

Total: $847USD plus applicable duties
~$1200 CAN plus duties
Plus 7% GST ~$1285 CAN plus duties

So now I'm broke, but I will soon have a wicked camera. I will gladly accept sympathy and money donations. ;)

I hope this is of interest to someone. Feel free to post additional useful links, because I'm happy to see them!

Ciao,
Stu.

I'll just say that BeachCamera is very well respected. I bought mine from Dell though. If you're patient Dell has some good deals sometimes.

I also bought my camera from beach but I feel like they raped me on the compact flash.....and the shipping....in retrospect if I had to do it again i would have gotten it from bhphoto or adorama which have cheaper shipping but "more expensive" prices.

In any case if you buy from beach don't get their crap ripoff compact flash or anything but the unit....or better yet dont buy from beach at all...The CF I had from them is decent enough for JPG but terrible for raw and the resale value right now is basically naught. Oh well, lessons learned
