Thanks Rylan, you won't be dissapointed. It's an extremely fun lens once you get adjusted to how wide it is. I've had to crop/clone my feet out of many pictures :)
I have a very cool shoot on Saturday and will deff bring this along and post up asap!

I find it perfect for rolling shots. Here's a few with it although it causes some funky flares, I think it's pretty cool. Photobucket screws up quality but you can check the full res on my flickr.

Having the light to my back and using a CP really lets you get that blue sky. Also, elevation helps. And of course using Lightroom 2.5 helps too. Here's a little trick I learned that takes two seconds for deeper blue skies:

You'll get adjusted to it soon Rylan. Nice shots so far though. It seems like most of the people that haven't seen shots using a wide angle or have seen pics with distortion before, don't like the effect. I, on the other hand, love it. Here's 2 from a shoot on Friday night.

I wasn't happy with the PP on a lot of the Viper shots so I went back and took my time and here was the result so far. This was about an hour of PP and it's a little harder for me to edit because I'm partially colorblind so minor adjustments to colors don't stick out to me as much as it would to a normal eye.

I will probably be selling my Wigma within the next month. I fortunately have the chance to step up to the FF group with a 5D2 and will be picking up a 17-40mm f/4L to keep my incoming 70-200mm f/4L IS company :). But until I do, I will be shooting a lot more with it!

I thought about it but selling my T1i and lenses will finally payoff my last credit card which will be nice to have that off my shoulders. Plus I'll probably spend too much time with my 5D2 and the T1i will get shevled and lonely. I don't want to choose between my kids so I'll do the only rational thing a parent should do and sell one to fund the bigger/better one :)

Thank you. Even though the minimum focal distance is around 10inches, you can get pretty close to your subject still and be in focus. It seems to me that I can get about 6-7 inches away and still be in focus.

Sometimes you have to get a little dirty for the shot you want.
Not sure how I managed to get the second closest tulip out of focus, but the one in front and behind it in focus.
Absolutely beautiful! You are making me missing my 10-20 which I sent in for calibration and probably won't get it back until May

Thank you. Even though the minimum focal distance is around 10inches, you can get pretty close to your subject still and be in focus. It seems to me that I can get about 6-7 inches away and still be in focus.
I also think the MFD is closer then 10inches.

9.4 inches for the MFD.

I would guess I was about 6 inches away from the focus tulip. It's kind of hard to measure distance while laying on your stomach looking up at flowers that close.

Rant time! My lens was supposed to be delivered today USPS signature required, so I've been sitting here waiting for it since 9am. At 2pm, I refresh the tracking page only to find out that they "attempted to deliver at 10:32 am and left a note on the front door." Funny, at that time I was sitting in my garage with the door open facing the road. The driver must have had his invisibility cloak on himself and the truck, which, needless to say, I'm very jealous we don't have this technology in the pharmacy world yet.
But wait, yay, it says I can pick up the package at the post office today! So I drive to the post office, only to have the guy at the front desk chuckle at me and say word for word "that package won't come back here today. You can go drive around town and try to flag down the driver if you want, he may still be out making deliveries." Are you kidding me?

I hate door delivery, it'd be great if i was a company and sit at home all day but getting it to a post office affiliate works best for me. That means the supermarket 100m from my apartment.
BTW what sort of in camera sharpening do you people use for this lens, i feel it needs +7 in my Canon 500D if i take an area shot with everything in focus to equalize the sharpness across the image.

I shoot raw so I have no idea what my in-camera settings are. Everything is adjusted when I get the shots off the card.
Darkwand
8th of April 2010 (Thu), 17:37
I shoot Raw as well but it saves time to have done settings in the camera lately most of my pictures in DPP didn't need any or very little tweaking.
Also when i need to give away photos (relatives Friends etc) on a short notice i need to shoot direct to Jpeg and then i need my act together.
tumblew33d
8th of April 2010 (Thu), 17:59
Ah, I see. Does that only work with DPP then? I've never paid attention to any in-camera settings. I always USM my output jpeg by eye in photoshop as a last step. I've never noticed the option to apply the recorded in-camera settings in adobe camera raw or Lightroom.

I just picked up this lens earlier this week, but haven't had the time to play with it until last night. One thing I noticed, I cant get the camera to show lower than F/5 when I adjust it. Do I have a problem with my lens, or am I just missing something being a noob? I know its not the camera, because I threw the Nifty Fifty on and it went right down to 1.8

The 10-22 lens is f/4-5.6. That means that f/4 is the widest aperture you can have at 10mm and f/5.6 is the widest aperture you can have at 20mm. It can never open up to f/1.8
