Seems this lens is nice, should i replace my Canon 10-22 with this? hehe
if you already have the Canon... why would you?
Agreed, if you have the Canon, no reason to switch unless you are selling your Canon and buying this to make an extra $10 or so? Canon is a tad faster and I don't see the "worlds apart" difference in IQ, but people claim there is a slight advantage to the Canon. But value, well, the Sigma rocks in this department at about $180 less than the Canon, comes with a hood and a pouch. But you would essentially not gain the value aspect if you already have the Canon.

Just because of people here showing alot of amazing shot by this lens, i thought it is better than canon maybe, hehe. Sorry people i was kidding and i am bored, so i posted that joke

I was at a protest and shot with this lens exclusively. I love it.
Compared to the Canon, I'd say optically there is very little difference, Canon is faster which can come in handy in some situations but not many as it's not that much faster, Sigma has better build quality, is cheaper and comes with lens hood and carry case/pouch so in my opinion the Sigma wins but if you've got the Canon then you're fine.

Hey now, you are just getting political and silly...In any case one can make an argument that under the 'regressives' how many of our freedoms have been 'sacrificed' in order to gain a sense of 'faux pax'. As Ben Franklin said: "Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither"

Just ordered this lense after tossing up between it and the Canon, I went with the Sigma since bar one lense my whole line-up is Sigma and none have ever given me any trouble. Plus the cost and the fact that no one could get the canon to me before the weekend everyone seems to be out of stock or too far away for overnight delivery. (want it for an airshow on Sunday, cockpit shots).
So thats how I settled on the Sigma 10-20.
I'll certaintly stick some shots up when I get it tomorrow. Looking forward to what is a new focal region for me.

Make sure you use F/11 in your shots if possible. This'll create the sharpest images, unless you're going for a narrower DOF look.

Thanks for that Jiggy, I'll keep that in mind.
Well I recieved it this morning, just 16hrs after ordering. Got one of the courier guys I know to bring it to my work this morning when he stops by. I'm just so impatient.
Anyway, my first thought was "Solid" it really does feel like all my other Sigmas, very well built. Haven't had much of a chance to use it yet, but the first couple of test shots revealed an area I could really get to enjoy.

I've always been interested to know, how do you get the sky so dark at the edges? I own a circular polariser, but my skies never quite come out that dark (almost black looking, i mean). Is it a PP technique, or maybe another filter on top of the CP?
Any help would be appreciated.:)

You want it to look so dark or dark blue?
You can apply that with your lens and CPL only, just practice

no big deal, I used a hoya shmc cpol (the only filter I used, polarized more at the right side) and then I used the burn tool (it's even easier if you work with a tablet) and finally, added vignetting.
or, you could use a grad ND filter to bring the sky down
Mind you, I exposed the picture pretty dark as I find it easier to get the pleasing results that way than exposing it to the right and then bringing the sky down...it just never looks right to me that way.
here, I'll include the picture directly from DPP without exp. comp.

I just have to say that the term WIGMA is lame.
It's really UWSIGMA or some deviant with U in there. If it was truly a wigma, it would probably be in the 17-50 range or so ;)

What the heck..I haven't had this lens very long, but I'm really pleased with it. Most of my shots so far have been kind of...eeehhhh...but it's more than likely operator error at this point. Here's a couple of shots I took with that lens yesterday while I was out in the woods offroading. They're cropped just a bit because at 10mm, it's almost TOO wide at times and I was just tinkering around with the photoshop. I know there's alot of glare from my windshield, but I haven't recieved my polarizing filter yet. Yeah I know they're kind of wierd...I did that on purpose....I was just playing around I guess.http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t276/fundabug/Jeepin4.jpghttp://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t276/fundabug/Jeepin5.jpg

At 10 it does but only close up. If you shoot like landscape you won't notice it as much. If you lie fisheye go with teh tokina. But at 12 the sigma levels out.

Because all said it will show heavy vignetting, if you like that heavy vignetting then go and buy it as soon as possible.
I believe i saw a sample where they using canon 10-22 or sigma 10-22 on the full frame and 1.3x, give searching a try.

This is exactly how I thought until I got the money to buy it! :) And I'm very satisfied with it. The Canon 10-22mm's images do look a little better, but getting a good copy, this lens is sharp, has good colors, and is a ton of fun!

^No! :p
Get a job or use your loan money! :D I have 3 jobs now and going to college full time. Technically 4 but 3 are freelance work. life is crazy with a girlfriend too to add to the mix. Seriously, loans are useful if you win scholarships. ;)
Took some more shots today. I'll get them up. It's funny, it's the kinda lens that may sit in your bag for awhile and then one day flip up that flap it's hidden under and then you go crazy with it and you remember why you got it. So much, fun.
What's better, go out with only this lens and see what you come back with. I've done that once, glad I did. To shots from a whole different perspective.

i purchased the tokina 12-24 a few weeks ago, but im considering trading it for the sigma 10mm just cause i need the distortion when i shoot automotive.
question though, does this lens get the random white stuff around its focus ring? i know my sigma 17-70 has this really weird stuff on it after prolongued use. i cant really explain, but i think its the material that the lens is made out of.
can anybody verify?

I was thinking a lot of my pictures were soft with this lens. Maybe it was b/c I was shooting the night pictures at f/10, not sure.
I think I need to send it back and see about getting another one. Anyone know how to go about doing that?

Mine is even sharper @f/10 regardless of night&day.
Call Sigma USA for calibration. I have not done this with Sigma so I can't comment on this but I have heard they do really good job.

Do you think this photo it's ok?
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2320/1864644386_0f0a7641ab_o.jpg
I took some photos yesterday, but they appeared really awful (reeaaally soft or out of focus). Maybe it's my problem, I mean, maybe I don't know how to use it properly yet. At those photos I had the sun in front of me, I didn't have other option, maybe that was a factor...
I think this one it's ok (if you see some artifacts, it could be because of the compresion)....
Tell me what do you think.... :)

I like the size and weight of the 10-20 better as its a fair bit smaller. The extra 2mm on the wide end is very nice too. You wouldnt think its that much wider until you see the difference first hand. The 77mm filter thread is nice too and being able to use the same filters with it that i have for the 24-60 2.8
Although, i think the 12-24 may have been a tad sharper.

I do like my 10-20 for the reasons you have listed but if you ever go full frame (or even 1.3x) then the 12-24 seems to be one of the few choices. I should maybe have asked what you did/didn't like about the 12-24.

I dont see myself going full frame but i am hoping to go up a 1.3x camera after the 20D packs it in and I'll still use the 10-20 on that. Ive seen the results from that combo and i dont mind a bit of vignetting or having to crop a little bit.
My 12-24 and a few other peoples had issues with the motor that controlled the aperture blades. It was stuck wide open at certain focal lengths and pretty much became impossible to use. Works perfectly now that its been repaired though.
The one big thing about it that i didnt like was the little hood thing that was part of the lens. Because of it you cant use any filters on the thing. Other than that, it was a fine lens. Just not quite wide enough for a wide freak like me. Given that i shoot at nothing but 10mm with the 10-20 ;)
