I dont see myself going full frame but i am hoping to go up a 1.3x camera after the 20D packs it in and I'll still use the 10-20 on that. Ive seen the results from that combo and i dont mind a bit of vignetting or having to crop a little bit.
My 12-24 and a few other peoples had issues with the motor that controlled the aperture blades. It was stuck wide open at certain focal lengths and pretty much became impossible to use. Works perfectly now that its been repaired though.
The one big thing about it that i didnt like was the little hood thing that was part of the lens. Because of it you cant use any filters on the thing. Other than that, it was a fine lens. Just not quite wide enough for a wide freak like me. Given that i shoot at nothing but 10mm with the 10-20 ;)
Yeah I agree 10mm is great, surprised that you cant put a filter on the 12-24, that would put me off if you cant use a CP. If you go to 1.3x then by my calculations that gives you equivalent 16mm which is the same as 10mm on a 1.6x.
cheers

I have been using this lens for a few days and it seems a lot less sharp compared to the Canon 18-55.
Does anyone else notice this? I was expecting sharper images.

I`m almost sure that you got bad copy... default, this Sigma is very sharp lens! Much sharper than Canon kit lens..

I'm curious what people's technique is with this lens for landscapes in general, with and without a foreground element.... Trying to decide if my technique is just bad, or if this lens isn't as sharp as it should be.

^Yeah, I love this lens so much, Sunny Fl, I can shoot with F9-F16 at a decent shutter speed too! So no need for a tripod. Just amazing how sharp it can be and the area it covers.

So I went out into the streets of Glasgow today with the new 10-20mm and managed to take all my shots at ISO 1600....cause I'm an idiot. So most of them are noisy as hell. Hey, I'm sure we've all done it. Still managed to salvage a few pretty good looking shots. At least I think so anyway. I do realise I went a bit over the top with the distortion. It's my new toy, forgive me. ;)

i was thinking about getting this lens.. what would be the difference between this lens and getting a fisheye lens?
pros and cons?
A fisheye will have a more pronounced degree of distortion around the edges of the frame and can often have a wider angle of view. Have a search for some images. Try here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=263989&highlight=fisheye+lens) or here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=430339&highlight=fisheye+lens) for starters.
Also there are 2 different types of fisheye - circular and full frame, the difference being that the circular fisheye will show as a circular image with a black vignette, while a full frame fills the frame.
The sigma 10-20 is an ultra wide angle zoom and probably is more useful in general terms.

im looking at new lenses, and want something wide, i have the 18-55 kit lense, and use it at 18-20mm and it works good, but i would like a little extra close ness, some areas are tight and some arnt. ill be using it for BMX= fast moving subject, tight compact areas, sometimes im 5ft away, sometimes 8ft away.
would this be a good lense? i was also looking at the 17-70mm, but im not sure, i wont order anything for about 3 weeks if i do.
id love a 70-200 and then this 10-20 and then have my 18-55,and then get a 50mm f/1.8 prime, and it would be "good nuff" for everything, but i dont want to spend $600 on the 70-200 :(

I hope to be ordering mine in the next day or so. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread and helping me decide on this lens, I was torn between it and the canon 10-22mm but I think I will be happy with the sigma and the money I save. I'll be sure to post some pics as soon as I get it.
I plan on getting a CPL but I'm not real sure whether to go with the hoya pro1 or B+W Kaesemann MRC SLIM, I'm leaning more toward the hoya because it is alot cheaper. hvstar has the B+W CPL and UV for $186.50, the Hoya Pro1 CPL and UV is $89.90 is the B+W really worth the extra $$?

Thanks for the complents guys (royv, willy b, drawaz)
These are HDR but I tried to keep it at a minimum.
Your right about the boarders. What would you recommend? No boarders at all or a different style. If a different style any suggestions or tips on doing it?
Thanks again.

well, you guys did it to me. I picked up a brand new one from a fellow POTN'r and it arrived about an hour ago. Have only shot two quick tests with it so far but I think that when I'm not shooting sports, this thing is going to see a ton of time. The creative possibilities are endless it seems!!!
I'll post up a few shots once I take something other than a test but thanks for all the inspiration.

I bought the Sigma 10-20mm for a trip to the Pacific Northwest and used it a lot more often than I had anticipated. It's a good lens for capturing dramatic skies in a landscape scene.
Here's a shot I wouldn't have been able to capture if it weren't for the Sigma 10-20mm. The only place to photograph the Eye of the Needle in Custer State Park is about 20 ft away on the opposite side of the road. This was taken at 10mm on a 30D.

No I didn't vignette the corners, the only thing I done was a bit of sharping in PS. I actually hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it but after looking I think it might just be shadows on the road, I didn't use any filter or anything for this shot.

Thank you Oreca. I exposed for the sky and increased the levels of just the granite in Photoshop to bring out some detail (along with some noise, unfortunately). The sky in the picture is exactly as it came out of the camera.
Gixxer,
With an ID like Gixxer and your proximity to Deals Gap/Dragon's Tail, I'm actually surprised you found a road as straight as the one in your picture.:D

Those images came out pretty good.. However, I think the first one has potential with some cropping. The centered subject kinda makes someone loose interest. So maybe making the building more off center. Both of them do look very sharp. I don't see a hint of distortion so I think you are using it correctly.

They look nice, but maybe a little overexposed, try and darked the sky and little, and up the contrast a little, then you shall have a even nicer shot!
