Took this one today in California. I had a polariser fitted and have tweaked it a bit. The sky was amazing, no airbrushing...

p33we, was that fog or water movement exposed through long shutter speed?
Matt Peters
1st of April 2008 (Tue), 15:03
It was long shutter speed, 2 shots at 10mm and one at 20mm I think?
Nearly got soaked on the second shot, as I jumped of the rocks a massive one covered where I was standing! Haha ..
I may convert to B&W see how it look! :D

Shooting long exposure on the beech is fun! Remember when i was on holiday i tried it, and was just taking teh shot when a big wave came, so i had to grab the camera and tripdod and run. Didn't get wet, but did break my tripod, and spent 1 hour looking for this part in teh dark lol

EDIT: Buy it direct from Adobe for the same price for higher ed. Eligibility from Adobe is here. (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=25f26dd&sliceId=2)

Yeah that's how it is in the Philippines, but if he bought it from an authorized dealer then he's got no problems with guarantees and warranties. I bought a grey unit here in Sydney for Au$535. Had to return it because it had decentering issues. Seller says there's nothing wrong with it but that's a different story.

Spam, i wish youd upload your pictures on imageshack instead of flickr, people seemed amazed by them, yet i cant witness their beauty due to FlickR being blocked in the UAE.
Sorry mate, absolutely detest imageshack, photobucket and similar ones. Although my flickr pro account is expiring next month so i may see what i can do about a zenfolio account.
Can you get onto deviant art? Try the link in my sig, i dont have a lot of stuff on there but a fair bit goes up every now and then. Let me know if you can get onto the deviant art one, if not ill see what i can do about putting a couple somewhere else (not that i need more image hosting accounts haha)
Spam i love your shots, i think you could take a shot of paint drying, and make it interesting:)
Edits are supurb!
heh, cheers :D
Wish i had some inspiration lately instead of going over old photos

lol, trust me not to look beyond the obvious haha
Did a bit of research before, looks like there has been a bit of an on off relationship with flickr. DA was blocked at one point too.
Just putting some of the recent ones up on my da page now. :)

This lens is very impressive. Nice pics in this thread. Is there really any reason to purchase the Canon over this one? It doesn't seem like it when you compare the images.

yes, the levels of distortion are waaaay lower. I'ts also got faster focusing and more reach, if that means anything to you. Also, many people say it has better IQ, but thats for you to decide.

Hmm.....I have to disagreee about the "waaaay" lower. Look at photozone's distortion test, Sigma at 10mm beats the Canon by twice the amount, then loses out at 14mm by a significant margin, but then gets really close to Canon again at 20mm (vs Canon at 22mm). I think with the wide angles there has to be some optimization at certain focal lengths. Sigma seems to have decided to do it at 10mm, Canon at 14 and they are very close together at 20-22mm.......but I don't see either being so much better than the other to characterize one as the winner.

These shots are NOT to be taken as a TEST. I was just having a look to ensure the copy of my Sigma wasn't front or rear focusing as I just got it a few days ago.
Tested with borrowed 400D
all taken in RAW - JPEG.

So many incredible shots with this lens! I was looking for a wide angle, and almost went with the Canon glass. Glad I found this forum, since I'm going to order this lens and save a few bucks. Before I do though, has anyone had any problems with this and a 400D? I see quite a few signatures with them so I assume everyone is happy. I read as many pages as I could in this thread, but my eyes will fall out before I can finish all 68! Anything I should be aware of before ordering one? Thanks!

Welcome! I was like you looking at the Canon, but for the 2mm extra reach and the $200 Canon wants for theirs, along with the weaker warranty it was almost a no brainer that this lens wins. Some however do claim that the Canon is sharper, I yet have to see conclusive evidence of this, I don't own the Canon so I can't speak of it. But I know I tried them both on my 30D and they looked identical, so it was easy for me to make up my mind.

Yep, and who in their right mind would optimize an ultra wide for anything but it's shortest focal length? I'll take the optimized distortion at 10mm anyday. Probably 90% + of my wigma shots are at 10mm.

Will a regular 77mm filter work on this lens? For some reason I think I remembered reading that it doesn't.
What say you?

I think it can, pretty sure I have a cheap 77mm filter on mine and I don't think I've had problems with vignetting

thanx and as I said to Mr. willy
it was pure moon lighting but actually if you want to balance between stars and balanced car lighting you have to chose the perfect day (not full moon) because the light of full moon will eat any lighting :D

thanx and the two pictures were in same conditions but the angle was different and I think the colors from 10-20 is better but the 17-70 take advantage of 2.8 (to low the ISO)
