Just bought my first digital camera. Finally decided in the Canon Powershot A70 which for the money I paid is a great camera. My only complaint is the Zoom is very limited. 3.2m pixel with a 3xoptical Zoom. Great for general photographs but after a recent visit to the Zoo with the kids I was disappointed at the limitations on the ability to zoom in on animals that were at the far end of their enclosure. Can anyone reccomend what brand / size of zoom lens I can add to improve on this. I don't need to get anything too strong as shots at the Zoo etc will probably be the only time I will need to take photos of distant objects.

I don't believe that there is anything that you can do with this camera to extend it's zoom capabilities.

If you look at the Canon website for this camera and then check it's accessory list, there is nothing of this nature listed.

In your manual, it will tell you that there is a wide angle and a telephoto adapter for the a70. They require an adapter to fit on your camera.

There may also be other lenses by third party companies that may augment the selection, if there is any, try before you buy.

The tele adapter is not really powerfull, but it will be better than using digital zoom.

Like stopbath had mentioned, you have third-party lenses that fit the A70 that are a cheaper option compared to canon's telephoto and wide-angle lenses. A 2X teleconverter should suit your requirements. But note that the image quality does go down a bit when you use the teleconverter ( probably not noticeable in the daytime snaps).

eBay would be a great place to start scouting... Digital Optics is decent but there are higher-end models if have the $$$
