copying files to cd

Can anyone tell me if/how I can download my pictures from the files on my computer to a CD-R? (I'm using PC and MS XP as operating system.) I'm wanting to reformat my card without taking the card to have pics developed. I'm getting cf card error readings on the nearly full card. Any possibility it's a limitation of cards to just be stingy when they approach maximum capacity? Or is it the card?

Using XP, choose folder with your pics, on left you should see "copy all items to CD" Click and follow prompts.
