View Full Version : Can't convert RAW files in Zoombrowser 4.0.1

I just installed ZoomBrowser 4.0.1 today (downloaded from Canon's site) so I could start using RAW mode again on my Canon G1. I've had the camera for 2 and a half years now and only used RAW a couple times. Back when I got the camera, Zoombrowser was terrible and caused way too many problems to make it worth it (for me) to use RAW mode.

However, I figured now would be a good time to try it again with the latest ZoomBrowser. I installed it, everything worked fine in the install, and all the images can be downloaded off my IBM Microdrive (through a PCMCIA adapter). However, when I try to open the RAW images, a window prompts me, telling me that I have to convert from the RAW (.CRW) format in order to read the image, so of course I say "yes".. but it doesn't work. The exact message is "Failed to convert RAW images"

Anyone have a clue what is going on here?

I'm running Windows 2000 on a Dell Latitude Cpi-A laptop, 400MHz processor with 128 MB of RAM.

Or, if anyone knows a better program that's free, I'm all ears. I tried Irfanview, and it loaded the pics, but for some reason scaled them down to 640x480. I tried Bibble, but that didn't work either. With this evidence, I have to wonder if my camera isn't storing the image correctly. The strange thing is that a preview thumbnail is accurately generated..

thanks for your help!

hehe.. ok. Maybe it's a lost cause dealing with "DoomBrowser"

there is a free shareware version of breezebrowser, right? If so, is it a fully-functional program (all I really need is the ability to convert from RAW to TIFF, etc.)

thanks.

I had the same problem with ZoomBrowser (version: 4.0.2.120) not being able to convert and display the raw files. I downloaded and installed Canon's File Viewer Utility and now ZoomBrowser works just fine. When I select a raw file to view ZB pops a window asking to convert the file to a temp folder and then converts to a .tif and displays the picture just like it does with .jpg.
Also, the File Viewer Utility added a "process raw images" button. View/Modify > Process RAW Images. When you click on this button the File Viewer Utility is opened with the previously selected files ready to be converted. If you choose your camera mode you can then adjust white balance, contrast, saturation, sharpness and maybe other things depending on camera model.
It works very well. You need to have Canon File Viewer Utility or Canon RAW Image Converter already installed to have a successful installation says Canon's update page.
