Taken with the G3 and the Canon wide-angle lens..Sorry about the house's in the background..I thought of them when I took this yesterday. Does it look to dark on your monitor? I used the hood of my Jeep as the tripod and I left the motor running just in case. Maybe some camera shake. :)

Hi Bill

This is a very pleasant farm scene. Very restful.
You asked if it was too dark. No I don't think so.
There are a few technical points that are not quite right,
if you don't mind my mentioning them.

* The barn being virtually up against the side of the image is not good. A little space to the right of the
barn would balance your picture more.
If it's not on the original image I can do it for you, if you like.

** The pic is leaning slightly to the left.
The silo is leaning a bit.

*** The middle foreground could be lighter or more contrasty.
This would make the furrows stand out more and lead one's
eye into the picture.

**** When you have white clouds at the edge of a picture (or white anything, like a house, water etc)
it's a good idea to put a thin dark border around the image
to "hold the lighter objects in."
Especially if the background, as in this Forum, is light colored.

The buildings in the distance don't bother me.
They could be darkened or blurred or removed in minutes
if you wanted to try the pic that way.

The sky is good and the general "feel" of the picture is good.
Major fault is the barn at the edge of the image.
One can crop off objects that are "lead-in objects" in an image.
The barn is the main subject and should be complete so
that the viewer's eye rests on it.

Kind regards
eland

eland~~~Thank you for your help. :) I love this forum cause this is where I can lean! About that barn...I almost didn't stop to take this picture cause on the right side of the red barn were 2 or 3 yucky big trucks...so I thought oh well I 'll just position the frame so they wouldn't be seen. I go that route often and I will try it again. Once again thank you for all your help.
Oh I almost forgot....I think I need to level my monitor. *VBG*

Thanks for your reply Bill.
As you pass that way, try moving the barn in even if you
have the old trucks.
They can be cloned out quite easily and the composition
will be better balanced with some space to the right of the barn.
Just say if you need help.

Kindest regards

That has become a very powerful image now. Wow.

Cropping the barn has done the job. And blocking out the
buildings in the background concentrated one's attention
on the foreground.

Also darkening the top half and lightening the foreground
has improved it no end.

Looks like a storm coming up.

Excellent.

That is magic. Bravo !

Thanks Bill,
You did an outstanding and creative job on that photo.

I went to university in Chicago but only
had one very brief visit to Cleveland.

I look forward to seeing more of your fine images and learning
more about Ohio :)

With kindest regards

Bill

PS.
When the thin black border fails to show all the way around
the image, as here, that means that the line is too thin.

Making it one or two pixels broader will solve the problem.
