For a long time I was after a 24mmL. Used to have the 16-35 but found myself mostly at the 35mm range so, BAM! it was a no brainer to sell the 16-35 and get the 35L. Well, I have been in a bit of a stickey wicket over this issue and your recient post helped me decide on another 16-35L. I almost always have one or more flash with me, so I can deal with the extremely slow f/stop of 2.8 when I am forced to go there :)

Whats everyone saying duck pics for? I'm lost there.
Lets see some pictures of anything but your kids mr! I've seen enough pics of your kids from every angle to make a virtual 360º kid :)

Dante you devil incarnate, just when I am starting to cool off a bit vis a vis the 16-35.:(
My wife will mail to you an antrax letter....... if I get miself a 16-35 I'll tell her that you have been that bad decisive influence.
Congratulations, there is so much appeal in that lens....it's the damn colour that does it!
Like the 24-70, that sort of thing.
Yeah, I know that I will have to conquer this temptation again by simply yielding to it.
Seriously, the 24 mm prime would not be a real asset in a collection of glass like yours.
Again, enjoy ! Happy for ya.:D

This is of grave concern.. that you could be here on the forum for all this time and;

2: Have managed to avoid being caught in violation of the STRICT Duck Post policy we have for all new members and new lens owners..

I thought I saw you say months back that you had this covered with the 3 lens routine - something about the big white one, the medium sized black one, and the little plastic thingy? ...you've not been keeping them all in the same bag, have you?

Oh yeah, still playing the same rather efective game, although it's getting a bit thinner and weaker with every new acquisition. Fortunately, so is my wife's eyesight, but the risk of getting busted is omnipresent.
However, I am still having 3 lenses as far as she is concerned.;)

Let me get this straight. You had the 16-35L, but didn't think you needed it, so you sold it. Then you were convinced you needed it again, so you went out and bought another one. Did I get this right? So, where are you going to shoot ducks? :) ;)

Eh, Dante dude, I am really trying to enlarge my humbLe collection of L glassware to twelve in order to have twice as many as you do.
However, that ain't gonna be easy....there are just not enough L's out there....running outta lenses that I'd consider for my taste and needs. Like 14L ? Phew ! Could not see any IQ difference between my EF 24 f2.8 and the 24 L. The 24-105 L...(yawn). The 16-35L ?....a questionable gain over the 17-40. The 180 L macro ?....damn, I do not shoot macro. The 28-300L ?....yeah right, what a travel kit lens ! That's the end of the L road for me.
So I am left with these two candidates:
EF-S 17-55 f/2.8....alas, not an L but it could turn out to be an "L killer".
EF 50 f/1.2(f/1.0)L USM....if they ever come up with that one (again).
Well, heck, you've got your 16 Mp "poster camera", I've got already more than three times the total number of lenses you've got, all counted.;) :D :D. I do not think you could ever win that lens race, even if you got yourself that 1200 mm ship ballast of a lens to shoot your kids' basketball game with.
Bwuahhhhhhhhhhahahahah:evil:

See if you can pick up the 50 f/1.0L secondhand - it would be a nice addition to your already-impressive collection. The essentials are already well covered, so why not play with something a bit more unusual?
Of course we want pics with it wide open, too. :D

Yeah right ;) , four problems though from my perspective:
(1) The more expensive an article is the more reluctant I am to buy it used. (I have never bought used, probably never will.:) )
(2) Currently the lens is in the hands of many collectors, very much like the EF200 f1.8.
In cases like that the price goes outta proportion to the item's user value. I do not collect lenses....I use them to take photos.;)
(3) Based on what my compadre Michael Schmoeltzel tells me, that lens is one p**sy performer. Michael knows a sharp (or dull) lens when he sees it.
(4) I can imagine the CA on that lens ! Canon should have probably shipped the lens with purple/green defringing software included in the box.
MDJAK
11th of March 2006 (Sat), 07:05
Dante, first you should have corrected his inaccuracy; Through PF functions, the camera is 4fps, not 3. And when you're as good as you are, it usually only takes one to get the shot, not a scattershot of 8.5fps with crossed fingers and toes.
(Sigh:) Yes, I've regretted not springing for the 16-35 ever since the day I "saved" money getting the 17-40.
Belmondo: It's becoming quite obvious that sooner rather than later Canon is going to have to speed up the rate at which they introduce new lenses, as you own almost everyone, you lucky dog, you. Time to update your mountain of boxes photo.:)

The box photo wouldn't look too different than the last one. I've sold a couple, but haven't added or subtracted anything significant. I have one more lens I'm interested in....the 24L. After that, I might have to take up knitting or something.
