Hey! I've been using my G2 since last Christmas and I still love the thing...it's really gotten me into photography and I've learned a lot. I just recently took a trip to Hawaii though, and took a ton of pictures. When I got back I was somewhat disappointed with the results. In an effort to save room on my card, I set the compression to normal (which in the past has still given excellent results), but this time a lot of the images were poor. I'll give 2 photos, one taken in Hawaii recently and the other with all of the same settings taken when the camera was new. Has something changed with the camera, or is it the lighting, or what? thanks a lot for the insight in advance....

(okay I'm trying to post the pics, but I don't see how to do that, so if someone could help me with that I'll post them :) thanks again!)

To post some pictures here - which makes sense with your question - you have to put them first to some gallery in the Internet or your own home page. One example would be www.pbase.com where you can set up a free trial account for up to 10 MBytes.
Then you can put the link to your pictures here with the text.

Boston:

I can't see anything wrong with your pictures.

Usually Canon cameras tend to have a "soft" look, but you can sharpen it using UnsharpMask filters in postprocessing. Also you can increase your in-camera sharpening setting to "high" (+1) but it will probably increase compression artifacts and image size due to the more defined edges.

Also the shooting conditions were very different.
The first picture was taken at sunlight, at a high shutter speed, and at wideangle, so the scene is more contrasted and with more defined edges.
The second one was taken in tele, at only 1/50 (using a
50mm equiv. focal lenght) so you were in the limit of motion blur, in a low-contrast soft light situation. So you have less defined edges, probably a little bit of motion blur, and a shallow depth of field, so only the building is completely in focus. Also there is some mist in the backgound, softening and desaturating it.

...right, and the other thing is that the temple pic is taken in air with high humidity which can give some diffusion. You should see some of my jungle pix in 90% humidity. Close pix are ok, but as soon as you are doing objects in the distance, you are shooting through a screen of water! If you take that into consideration though, you can get a good mysterious look to use advantageously.
