It seems like the new Nikkor 18-200 VR zoom is a very nice lens. It receives lots of good reviews. No need to say that 18-200 is the most useable focal range. On top of that, it's priced very reasonably. I think it's around $650. If Canon has something in that neighborhood, I surely would buy one.
What do you guys think?

I'd like a 10-600mm f1.2 L, if they were to make such a thing :). That'd be the ultimate lens, and ultimate backbreaker.
Maybe Canon is coming out with a new lens with that range, we'll just have to wait and see.

Well, my ideal lens would be 10-1000mm f1.0L IS DO:lol:  weighting 2 lbs and mayby 8" long:lol:  ......oh.......sorry I'm daydreaming again:lol:
Seriously, I really like to have that zoom range (18-200 that is), which is a perfect walkaround general purpose lens. If Nikkor has one, why can't Canon produce one?

The 28-200 is a nice lens had a Tamrom 18-200 and the difference isnt to much that a little foot work cant fix in most situations...it would be nice if they had an 18 or 17-200 but the best you get is an 18-135 in the canon.

Hmmmmm......interesting........is the 18-135mm you mentioned an EF mount? I think it's been discontinued? But still, even with the 18-135, it's no match to 17 or 18-200. A fixed f/2.8 throughout would be even better :).

Yeah 18-135 is an EF but you would have to pick one up used I believe...
You could do one of these:

They do an 18-135? I thought it was the 28-135? I'm a newbie. :D
I just looked on their site, theres no such thing as an 18-135, unless its from the "old days". ;)

Canon maybe a bit slower than the smaller companies in introducing lens. Tamron and Sigma both have a 18-200 lens for cropped sensors. Basically this is a dslr version of a 28-300mm zoom for film cameras. Canon was slow to come up with one themselves (if I remember correctly) and it was never that good either.
Looking at the EF-S lenses that came out, they seem to be going to small zoom ranges and higher end optics (first they had the kit and the 17-85, then came with optically excellent lenses like the 10-22, 60 macro, and the new 17-55 f2.8 lens. Hence I see them going more towards a smaller zoom range lenses. It would be very difficult to make an optically excellent 18-200mm zoom and they might not be interested in making a cheap EF-S mount lens that doesn't perform well optically. Now if the market is there, then I can see them making it, but I don't think the market is going that way. It seems like folks are pixel peeping 100% crop shots and want pro grade lens with excellent optics.
