Honestly, you need to pay more attention on your framing. Exposure isn't bad but composition is poor.

For starters, photographers tend to avoid "bullseye" when taking photos, by position your subject right at the centre of the frame, most of the times. There is a "rule of the third", which has been taken into consideration when you frame a shot in the viewfinder, it's the most eye pleasing way of compose a shot.

What you've done here is centred the house right in the middle, which leaves no room for its surroundings. I would strongly suggest you to look up "rule of third" on the internet, or the best of all, try this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/079225676X/sr=8-12/qid=1141430204/ref=pd_bbs_12/102-9429413-3851357?%5Fencoding=UTF8), you can really learn a lot from it :)

What you could try to do is activate one of your left side AF points, and shoot horizontally, and set the left focus point on the house. Let us see what the house sees...

PS: Focus and recomposing works too if you don't want to use the other AF points.


Composition and lighting are what sets a photograph apart from a snapshot.

nice blue sky. but sGU is right, work on the framing. If i were taking this same shot in portrait, I would've filled the shot with the blue sky... the base of the building close to the bottom of the picture. or i would've zoomed in (using your newly increased focal length) and concentrated on that light at the top. another option would be to step back... take a landscape style pic.. with the house off to either the left or ride side of the pic (depending on what landscape is around it).

YES, I just got the new 24-105 L, but havevn't had very many chances to get out and shoot, plus the weather has been rain rain rain here. I want to take great eye catching photo's. I love to learn. Thanks again to everyone, for all the advice.
