Hi all,
I am Pekka´s brother, and I am considering a venture into the world of digital photography, however I am still deciding on the camera to get, G3 or G5. Could anyone help me with this decision, is it worth the extra 1Mpix, and the price difference. If so, what is the best and cheapest place to get the G3 and G5. I live in sunny portugal ;). Thanks for your help.
regards,

Definitely a tough question - it really depends what your "final" budget is.
For example, if your budget is the g5's end price, you'll probably get better pictures sooner if you get a g3 plus accessories (you could probably get the g3, 420ex, and a lens for the same price as a new g5).
The G5 is definitely a better camera though, and if budget isn't as much of a concern I would go with that. You will be able to print larger pictures, some of the internal operations are supposed to be better, and while it might be a petty reason the black is much sharper.
I don't think either is a really bad decision. Consider your budget / end goals (i.e. larger or smaller prints) and I think you'll find your answer.
As for shops - I'm a big fan of bhpohto, but I don't know if they ship reasonably to Portugal.

I have to agree with hypokondriak on this - it's definitey a tough, budget, question and hence one that only you can answer.
Budget aside, I'd go for the G5 but for the cost you'd probably get 'more' (in physical terms at least) with the G3 and some extras as you would paying out for the G5.

...and of course the other thing is, if you get the G3, will you later be wondering if you should have gotten the G5?
I bought my G2 about 6 months before the G3 came out. While the G3 is a good improvement on the G2, it wasn't enough to make me go for it.
But the G5 got me!

I agree John - I got the G2 when it came out and didn't find the G3 enough of an improvement to invest in but the G5 certainly did.

...and there you are Barry...
...it's all timing...
...But the G3 found a 'sweet spot' in price and advantages vs. disadvantages....when you go up the incremental price to G5 it opens up a whole new range of descisions regarding what camera to get.....Personally, I'd start looking at D-SLR's before a G5...and for the G3 price...I would wait for more compact cameras for the same price. We are in the cusp.
Advice=wait!!!!
