Hello all
oh no not another monopod question :o
Im looking at gettign the Manfrotto 680B with the 486RC2 ballhead that seems to be popular choice on the Canon forums. Question is, is it tall enough for a 6 ft tall person?. The 679 and 681 seems 8-10cm longer when extended, they do not seem to compact as much as the 680 though. To be attached to the 486RC2 head would be my Canon 20D.

You have a choice between longer length opened up, compactness when folded up, and price.
I am 5'10" and the 680B with the 486RC2 is plenty tall for me. I just checked it out. With the monopod vertical and fully extended, the top of the ballhead (the quick-connect surface) is right at my eye level. That means that the viewfinder would be a little more than three inches above my eye level. I don't think that you'd have any problems with the combination at your 6' height.

If this can help you...
I am 6'2" and I have a Manfrotto 728B that I found very good.
When I put on my 350D, the viewfinder is at 5'7" while If I stand tall my eyes are at 5'10". That's comfortable enough for me.

I have the 680B and the 484RC2. I am 6'0" and the height is perfect. Without the camera on it comes up to my nose (ball head included). Depending on whether or not I am using the flash bracket, it is easily eye level or an inch or so above. I traded in the 679 because I wanted the smaller compact size. I am a pet photographer and often get real low to the ground, and use it in its closed size. It is a really solid and well built monopod.

I wanted to do eagles soaring overhead with the lens/camera still on a monopod. Got the Giottos 8990. Carbon Fiber and it goes up to 75", nice.

Im looking at gettign the Manfrotto 680B
I have the 681. It's a 3 section design I prefer over the 4 section 680.
