Hi All,

Re: A70 camera shake warning / Shutter speed / Aperture settings

Disclaimer: I'm new to photography! And before you ask, yes, i've read the entire manual... : )

Whenever I use the 'Auto' mode, the shutter speed is always set to far too slow (e.g. 1/8, 1/60, etc...) and this basically always causes the Camera Shake warning to appear - and blurred shots.

* When I go into Tv mode, I cannot seem to select a shutter speed faster than 1/250 (even with flash turned off) without getting an invalid Aperture warning.

* If I go into Av mode, and select a low f-stop number (e.g 2.8), the shutter speed is always set far too slow again (e.g. 1/60), hence MORE camera shake.

* If I go into fully manual mode, adjust the ISO setting (such as turning it up to 200, or on Auto), and then selecting a fast shutter speed such as 1/1250 with f-stop 2.8, the f-stop number is displayed in red (invalid).

* Even if I go into sports photography mode, the shutter speed is still automatically being set to 1/60 - way too slow - and giving me camera shake warning!

Qn: Why can't I select a fast shutter speed? I'm sick of camera shake and blurred photos! Someone please enlighten me! : )

what kind of photography are you looking at ? people, landscapes, wildlife ? Day/Night photographs ?

Thanks for your reply vinod_rv ;)

At this stage, basically i'm shooting anything indoors or outdoors, in day light. Just trying to play with all the camera's options and settings.

The main issue seems to be that in Tv mode with a shutter speed greater than 1/500 (with flash off), it always causes and invalid aperture setting...

What is the usual shutter speed people are using with each mode / aperture setting?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure what is happeing. But lets see.
What ISO is the camera set at?
What lighting conditions exist?

If you have ISO 50 set, and shooting outside, and the sun is a not overcast, you should be able to get one of these settings:

f8 - 1/100
f5.6 - 1/250
f4 - 1/500
f2.8 - 1/1000

These may not be the actual numbers you come up with, as this is not exact.

Is your EV set way off zero?

Stop & ihug:
That make sense. Remember A70 lens has only 2.8 at the wideangle end, so if you are using the zoom in a different position, there is no 2.8 setting available, so the fastest shutter speed possible at ISO 50 (using Stop numbers) is 500.

Thanks guys,

That's what it was - I was playing around with the zoom, and that's what was affecting things.

Thanks again!
