Hello,

I have been an avid viewer of the great work on this forum for a while but this is the first time I have posted a photo of my own. I have a D30 and am just starting to get the hang of using it (with the wonderful help of Eland!).

This photo of my father-in-law was taken in the late afternoon at one of the beaches in Wollongong, NSW. This was a candid shot, he was not aware I was photographing him.

I did consider doing some post-processing, but thought I would get some of your comments on the "raw" image. I guess the main thing which people will notice is that his pants are the same colour as the sand, but I quite like the fact that his lower body is "in tune" with the sand and his upper body is in tune with the colours of the sea.

All critique is welcomed.

Thanks for your time.
Suzie.

I wouldn't touch it. It is great. I bet someone will suggest a little more color saturation.. but composition, exposure, and contrast are terrific.

Welcome to the Forum! :D

Welcome!

Beautiful... shot is wonderful... run USM (unsharp mask) or highpass to make it sharper and you will be in GREAT shape.

But yah, adjusting levels and contrasts in PS wont hurt.

But, the photo is beautiful.

Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't do too much differently with this. For me the shadow takes something away from it. I grabbed a copy and cloned it out and liked it alot better.

Look forward to seeing more of your work on here.

Hi Suzie. You have a good instructor - Eland has been very generous in helping me over the past year or so. I look forward to seeing more of your posts here.

Thank you all for your welcome, kind comments and suggestions. I will have a play around with the image and see how I get on.

I must admit that although I have been taking photos and gradually improving for a long time, I am a real novice when it comes to digital editing and find it a little daunting, but I guess with experience comes confidence!

I hope to post some further images soon and look forward to receiving more of your valuable feedback.

Suzie.

Very nice.

The mood is good. Maybe a slight increase in brightness, but otherwise flawless!!!!

good technique.

This is an excellent photograph, very well done. As with Mitch, Eland's assistance has been invaluable to me.

Hi Sue

Welcome to the Forum.

I've seen quite a few of your images and you will be
a most valued addition to the group.

This shot, particularly as it is unposed is outstanding and.....
as the camera club folk would say.... "Well seen."

Framing and compostion are very different from the usual. Most effective.

Ssim prefers it without the shadow.
Both ways it works well so it's a matter of preference.
Personally I rather like the shadow.
It adds another dimension.

Again a hearty welcome, Sue.
