Has anybody had good/bad results with the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8. My plans are to buy the 350d body and get the Sigma 17-70mm instead of the kit lens 18-55mm. I would like to see some pics taken with 350d and this lens. Any opinions very much welcomed.

See Jojo's test here (http://www.pbase.com/fstopjojo/17701785). I am not sure if he uses a 350 though.

He uses a 20D for the majority of his tests if not all I believe.

I thought he might.

Check this out Frank ... http://www.pixel-peeper.com/lenses/?lens=270

I myself do not own/use the lens, but it seems it gives good results (avg rating is 4.5 for this lens from the above website.) You might want to do more research in terms of build quality, focusing ability, common problems of this lens ....

Advantages of Sigma over kit lens (I don't own one yet, but from what I've researched):

-Faster
-Wider and longer
-Sharper
-Better build
-Better macro

I say go for it. It's only around $330.

I had a handful of full-frame lenses when I bought my XT but nothing quite wide enough.
If the Sigma had been around at the time, I would definitely have picked it up instead of the kit lens. I have the Sigma now and and rarely, if ever, use the kit lens. Great walking around lens, sharp, fairly fast and inhabits a good price point. Judging from the lenses you already own, I'd guess you would probably find the kit lens a bit disappointing.
