Some ornamental grass in our yard. 105mm, 1/125s, f2.5, Av. In macro mode, the AF kept focusing behind the stem so I used manual focus.

Hello slejhamer!

This is lovely, I especially like the way the line of some of the leaves behind the flower follow its shape. I also think the border effect is perfect for the shot. Pardon my ignorance, but how did you do this?

Hi Mitch

This is beautiful.
Well up to your very high standards.

Creative

PS I smiled when I read that you had trouble keeping the flower in auto focus.

In macro the auto focus is a curse if there is the slightest breeze or
if the camera is being hand-held.

It keeps the poor lens going in and out like a trombone :)

Thank you for the comments.

Eland: yes, that darned macro AF is fidgety. Even with a tripod I could not get it to lock on the stem. And manual focus on the G# cameras is not exactly easy to use... I really need a DSLR!

Suzie: if you have Photoshop (or PSP) the frame is VERY easy to create:
1. Flatten the image and duplicate the background layer
2. Select the portion that you want to keep sharp and delete this selection from the layer
3. Invert the selection and blur it - this creates the blurred frame
4. Set the layer to have an outer bevel and a small amount of inner glow.
5. Done! Optionally, you can add a texture to the framed portion, or any other filter effect.

Cheers,
