Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 APO EX DG OS HSM

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 II APO EX DG Macro HSM

Need to know the diff between these 2 lenses other than the 800 bucks

All week been tracking down deals and miss them by 15 minutes show up and some bastard bought the lot of lenses.........

I found the macro one but would gather its not as good as the one in this thread correct?Image stabilized with Sigma's version of IS.

Missing my 70-200 :( finally gave in and sent it away, too many things loose, i could just about cope with the rear barrel being loose and taking the back off to tighten it again. But the front came loose and i don't have the foggiest of how to tighten that..

Sent it away last Weds, got a confirmation e-mail from Sigma Imaging (UK) Thursday afternoon and called them Friday to give the authorization for the go ahead to fix it. They say 2-3 weeks to fix, but i'm hoping that it comes back sooner..

It's not too bad. This may raise some controversy but when I shot that model you see earlier in this thread I also shot with a 24-70L and my old 70-200 non DG bought used in 2000 hunted LESS in low light than the 24-70. That said it's not the fastest AF I've ever experienced. Dunno what the deal was with that 24-70 that night.

I'm not decided yet so, i need some opinions..Which one is better deal?:)

Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX DG HSM Macro for 600euro/850USD.
or
Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX DG HSM and Kenko teleplus pro 300 2x (teleconvertor) for 550euro/780USD

Other is the newer macro model and the other is older model, but with the older one i get that Kenko's TC with it. Macro can focus in 100cm and older one in 180cm? Is that right?whether the image quality or sharpens of the difference between those two?

I have had the older model for exactly a year ....today :)
I've read the older one is better than the macro....Mine is as good (Sharp and Contrtasty) as a Canon L IQ wise anyways....The focus and zoom rings aren't quite as nice as the L but they're not bad either...Actually pretty good....I say get the one with the Kenko 2x (that's a great extender)

I found the never macro model for pretty cheap i think and i buy that. I will buy Kenko's TC in some day, maybe 2x or 1.4x..:) I like that lens very mutch all ready.

i'm gonna sell it as it is to somebody who use him for movies and does not require af.
such a great IQ but fails in other aspects

Mine is non-DG version. Bought it for $475 a week ago.

At 200mm f/2.8, it's slightly softer than my Tarmon 28-75mm , 75mm @ f/2.8 when pixel peeping, just slightly. Overall this lens surprised me. Not just great value, it's great!

hmm, cant' find the thread for the 2.8 II version of this lens. Reviews say it's supposed to be better by a little? Would $500 for a-like new one be a steal of a price?

Lesson learned: don't shoot jpeg when testing a lens. It seems my copy's even pretty sharp at 2.8 when in 200mm. Pretty cool piece of glass. I'll need to put it through the paces in servo scenarios but it seems to be a great lens indeed.
