Hello...looking at purchasing a new flash for my D10. I'm considering the Sigma EF 500 DG. I was considering the 550ex, but funds are a tad tight right now. I was wondering if I should hold off until I can afford it or try out the Sigma flash. Any thoughts?

I was considering it but a camera store owner friend of mine convinced me otherwise, not due to poor quality but due to - he feels dedicated flashes work best when they remain within the manufacturer family - canon equals canon.
I should have my 550ex by the end of the week. I intend to buy a 420ex to slave at a later date. Unless, I find the Sigma works with the Canon wireless system and I can slave the sigma to the Canon. Now that would be cool.
I would like to know more about your experience with the Sigma flash.

I have heard great things about the Sigma flash. The Only reason I would hesitate to by it is the slave compatibility issue you bring up. Any flash I get for my 10D I will want to be expandable in this way.
I am very interested to hear of anyone knows of the Sigma is compatible with the Canons in this way?

I have used a EF500S. I works both as a master and slave to Canon wireless remote system, with 420EX, 550EX and ST-E2 (flash as slave).
Mine finally breaks on this May and now I have a Metz unit instead -- which does not work with my ST-E2 anymore. :(
BTW, one word of advice: if you are using 10D, test it with the flash unit beforehand. My EF500S does not work with 10D.
Griffin.
