Not at all, the camera was a Canon 5D with a 300mm F4L IS lens and 1.4 extender. The EXIF is on the images but I was shooting shutter priority (TV) at 1/2000th of a second, aperture f8 to f11 on a partially overcast day with a lot of haze. Shot RAW and converted in RAWShooter Premium with resizing and sharpening in PSP9. Nothing you couldn't do with your Rebel XT.

That's better, speed

That's better, speed

Don't know if one is better than the other, it's more a matter of personal taste. For my part I prefer the moment frozen in time effect of a fast shutter but one man's meat...:D

I'd compromise with 1/320th :D

What is that helmet he's wearing?

Excellent pics.

Great Captures Ron.... Knew you would catch on quick...

gsgary ... Agree in part, however, due to bikes bouncing in the corners it is not posible to get rider and bike crisp yet still blur the spokes like track bikes. We must compromise to get a bit of both...

I will post more of my shots later...

Fran... 1/320 is still a little slow for what they are doing.. 1/800 usually does the trick. The helmet Doug is wearing is a snowmobile helmet. I believe it is the fighter pilot design by Bombardier. Works great in cold weather and doesn't fog up.

Beats me, but I love the fact that the dude with the jet pilot helmet, hiking boots, and the "I love strippers" sticker instead of a real number is the guy that's in the lead. Gives me hope for the the humble aspiring pro photographer with his 20d. (me) Proves that it's heart, vision, and desire that get you to the front of the pack, not necessarily the gear. (I'll go before I start waxing poetic) By the way Ron, I love the pictures. Keep up the good work.

And he's riding a KX500 so isn't really lacking in power at all :D

Thank's

I ran the gambit vis-a-vis shutter speeds and apertures, all part of the learning process and while I've been using SLRs for over 25 years motor sport photography is something new to me so experimentation was in order. This one was at 1/500th and likely on a smooth stretch of the course, as Jeff said much slower and a sharp image would be very difficult.

they're hibernating for the winter:) .

Some great shots, sure looks cold though.

Came to work this morning and saw my first Robin, Red Wing Black bird, heard a cardinal singing, lots of Canada geese on the pond in transit, and a muskrat swimming across. Spring is beginning here in Northern Illinois so your little furry friends should be waking up before much longer.

In the meantime, looks like you found a good diversion to shoot.

Are you kidding? Even chipmunks have enough sense not to race motorcycles in the ice and snow......

Nice series of pictures. I was wondering what you were going to be doing for the long winter up there. Looks like you're having fun.

LOL. Sure. Me, my XT, $1300 in lens/tcon and more talent than I possess at this point. Gives me something to shoot for. Great captures, thanks for sharing.
