Canon 10D + 1 Gb IBM Microdrive + Downloader Pro 1.0 (Breeze):
It took about 25 minutes to download 82 raw images. I find this quite slow.
Why is it so slow?
a) 10D
b) 1 Gb IBM Microdrive
c) Downloader Pro
d) combination of a/b/c
e) my "old" 800 Mhz pc
f) or what

Hiya.
You didn't mention what OS you are using. but I would bet it is the "old 800" . I have a 866 P3 and find it quite slow in PS 6 to run actions. I also use a Mac duall 800 and am happy with its speed but I do use a firewire cf reader. On both machines I use a finder or window to dump the files onto my HD.(no program) I notice that on the mac usb can be slow .My biggest cf card is 256mb and usb is kinda slow I dumped 3 full 256 cards and it took around 10-15 minutes using the firewire reader. to the mac. I haven't used my pc for awhile because the mac is better,in my opinion :p . I guess we both need faster pc's ;)
good luck

I am running a 800 Mhz pc with 765 Mb memory and WIN98SE and about 25 Gb free disk space.
Downloading the raw images from G2 was faster (I think, I do not have hard data). It was the same IBM 1 Gb microdrive + older version Breeze Downloader.

The bottlenecks are more likely the camera and the USB interface. DL Pro is certainly not slower than DL on my PC.
You should get improved performance using a card reader, but USB won't get any better.
I expect G2 files would be much smaller than 10D ones, so that comparison isn't valid.
