Hi,

I'm considering on buying a X Drive II, I think it's USB 2.0, and that it doubles as a CF reader.

I have found some measurements and test on insidecomputer, but that were for the previous model, (I).

could anyone that has one please shared his approximate measured speeds using USB 2.0?

I bought the X-Drive II from Insidecomputer.com. I have only used it once so far just to make sure it was working. The speed seemed pretty good to me, but I have nothing really to compare it to. You can check here though for the manufacturer's specs:

It seems that XdriveII transfers only to PC with USB2, not from CF to Xdrive.

But it is a nice drive, I use it (with 40 gb) since some month with CF/SMC/MMC/SD and with xD (with Olympus CF adapter).

No problems, all okay - even during vacations on an island :-)

Thanks for the replies!

It seems that the max speed out of CF -> CPU or X Drive ->CPU is about 5Mb/s. Not USB 2.0 full potential, but better than 1 Mb/s :)

I found a couple links regarding this, I left them here in case anybody does a search on this in the future:

I use the X-drive II and have a USB2 port an it reads the CF cards MUCH faster than my dedicated USB1 card reader. BUT what is REALLY fast is the X-drive itself copying from the X-drives hard drive to the PC is really fast indeed...

Hi,

I use the Xsdrive only for copying on the road.
Somehow I don't like the idea of doubling it as a reader, a simple CF reader doesn't cost an arm and leg anymore.

The speed on the road is fair, not super fast but a 5 minute rest (512MB) is always nice after shooting :D.

At home the drive is quick in download to the PC.

For the price the Xsdrive is a steal.

Frank

I have

a) a 6-in1-creditcard-sized-USB1-reader
b) a built-in-6-in1-3.5"-USB2-reader
c) an USB2- XdriveII/40GB

Percentage use

a) 0.001%
b) 5.099%
c) 102.003% :-)

That is the reason I am not considering the x-drive. When I am out on the road i want to transfer as fast as I can. A) so I can continue shooting b) faster will allow more transfers before the battery runs down.

That is why I am considering more the Image Tank II, Tripper and Super Digibin II. The Digibin was the fastest from card to HD even with ver 1 which was USB1.1. Not the version II has USB2.0 so... The only thing holding me back is it is more expensive than the others for the equivalent HD size and I am not sure if it is worth it or not. THere are no comparisons available as it has just now started shipping.

Hi,

A full Xtra high speed CF card of 512MB takes app. 4-5 minutes to download.

Sometimes it's good to take a little breather :D.
