View Full Version : First Solo Wedding

Thought it was about time to share some shots I did from a wedding I shot 2 weeks ago.

It was a good chance to test out the new gear, incluing stroboframe, 85mm 1.8, and the bulkier BG-E2.

http://www.warrenwilliams.co.nz/glasswell/images/08.jpg
A spontaneous shoot, walking down the hallway.. Only had the 85 on at the time, so couldn't do too much with it.

All these shots are completely unprocessed. No cropping, no changes, accept convert from RAW, and a USM to crisp up from resize.

There is absolutely no reason to doubt your talent for any form of photography you focus on. You're very gifted.

Had it been me sharing those photos for you, I would have had trouble narrowing it down to just those few, I saw many more that were worth posting in here.

Some great shots there warren, congrats on your first solo wedding!

Thanks, it wasn't that hard at all. :)
I'll show you more pics, when I can get the other pics back online. Way too much bandwidth. Simple viewer may be easy, but when it downloads 7Mbof images per web visit, it's no good!

Great shots. Nicely done and congrats. I'm sure they will be happy with the results.
Thanks, I hope they'll like them. Hopefully they'll see the originals within a couple of days. :)

Very well done. Not surprised at all. Number 3 is my favorite. Great work. Again.
Not surprised? I could have stuffed it up. But I was rather prepared with 2 20Ds and gear. Thanks mate.

Love number 10 and 11

Thanks, the only problem with the shots, they are all uncropped, so I can't zoom out anymore. :o
So I'm stuck with the tight headshot. THanks again

Nice work Wazza! Did you find it a bit harder when you're flying solo?

I was only a bit nervous prior, but after being pretty prepared, knowing the location and everything, and working with people my own age, I found it a breeze. Let's just hope they like the shots.

Sorry Warren, I had to turn off your simpleviewer gallery. Ill explain when you get home from work. Nice shots bud.

Aww Scott: You're perhaps witnessing the first of my sensitive side. And you thought it was all about jokes with me?
You're also still using your old avatar. Didn't you want the new 70-200 one. :D

And thanks to the last few, it's appreciated to hear the shots are liked by even pro wedding photographers of great experience. :)

Petra: Thanks so much. I've always loved your photos, and photoshopping, and business cards too. ;)

In fact I was clueless about the format etc, dimensions, file type of a card, that I asked tim to email your template last night, so I could use the base size and create my own card. Need them printed within 2-3 weeks, so when I leave my current job, I can hand them all out to my customers and local people in my town who all know me.

Good to have easy subjects to work with.

As for the overexposed shot, it was purposely done against a bright window on the 7th floor of their luxury suite! :D
There was one other:

http://wazz*****scity.com/glasswell/images/10.jpg
Slightly darker, but the other was exposed for the skin, but washed out the hair, but giving it a dreamy sense.

As for 666... Don't think I've ever said.. But does that signify anything?
It's my favourite number, and past websites, and my hotmail email contains 6_6_6 in it.. (born 6/6, at 6:06pm, room 6 at the local hospital)

Well if it was the effect you wanted then it's great it turned out how you thought...i still think its a beautiful photo and i like the 2nd one you posted a bit better...bit more definition in the girl's hair...

Listen to you guys...like a pack of dog's in heat LOL!!!!!!! Im not used to hearing normal conversations in this forum it's quite wierd lol

If i were single, and all the grooms men were hot, i think id find it hard to direct them - does this pose a problem for anyone? Now that i am a married woman (People still think i look 18 and go to me "OMG you are married young" then i say im almost 24 and they look at me like im lying LOL) i find it not so hard but back when i would have been single i think i would have been a very shy girl in front of hot grooms men HAHA

Not that i ever did a wedding when i was single anyway...just a general question though... :)

oh and 666 signifies nothing except for the fact the PIXI666 is my number plate, i got it when i was 19, going through a very heavy metal stage of life, i have calmed down a bit now but with the influence of my bf of the time (Now hubby lol) i guess i was just trying to "Look cool" getting a number plate with 666 in it lol

People always said to me "Geez that's a bit scary having 66 on your number plate, what if god makes you crash" hahahahahaha that's all i did...LAUGH! Its just a number...

Your story is heaps cooler than mine lol....that is awesome!!

Del: Heh, thanks for the reply.

I've also got a personalised plate, WAZZA6, which was a gift for my 21st two years back.

And for looking young, that's common around here. I'm often referred as looking below my age. My girlfriend Kirst, also looks great for her age, (despite having a decent age difference), she's looked at me beyond the gap, and has found some maturity (I hope), and similar interests such as passion for photography. :D

Rach: Thanks for the comments. I'm sure your own photos were good. I beleive you had seen my moon shots, and commented nicely on those.
Hope Palmerston North is ok... Kirst and I are heading down that way in 4 weeks time for the Ohakea Open Day at the airforce base.

Nah I just got simpleviewer working! I don't think there's a lot I can teach you, maybe some business stuff, and bits and pieces. I wouldn't like to influence your style one way or another.

I have big plans... which i'm starting to put in place now. If we were in the same place i'm sure we could work together to help each other out a lot! If you want to do a partnership... move you and Kirst down and we'll work something out! ;)

Warren, not to hijack your thread, I do sketches in Photoshop but make any graphical work "live" in either softwares like Adboe Illustrator or InDesign (in Tim's case it was actually in InDesign). They both let you save to pdf, as well as PHotoshop, but Photoshop really isn't the best editor for vector graphics.

I have a 20D now too! :D First real outing is next week... mostly at Sebring International Raceway. I can only dream of taking photos as great as you :) If I spent the time and had the same level of enthusiasm I could! There's just too much to do in life and not enough time with which to do it.

Didn't mean to ignore everyone's comments, just got a little excited hearing those other words coming from an old online friend/ and avid computer gamer. :o

Anyway, thanks for that.
I had a look about those programs, and asked a friend about Vector graphics, and he said if I don't know anything about them, then I'm in a lot of trouble.

Would it be wrong to make a card with the Photoshop 7 I have and make a .tif or full quality JPG?
Like how would I do the margins for bleed.

Good to come from an experience shooter, as yourself. :)

I enjoyed your gallery. I think you have some areas that need some tightening up. but you will get there just by shooting a lot. You have a really good eye!

Another great photographer, and thanks for the comment.
Would be interested to know any pointers on things I should look out for to tighten things up. I'll keep an eye out in future, but can't fix things without knowing what I'm doing wrong. :o

Thanks guys

Warren... hehehe... well you *could* make the card in Photoshop, but you risk to have the text *blurry* since it's not vector anymore. 2-3 mm for margins should do it though, if you have an image that "bleeds out" on the edges.

Just found your comment now sonton. Thanks. I much prefer candids, but had to work quickly and just pose them like that.

Petra: Just to let you know, I had the business cards made. Actually had the basic design made myself in photoshop 7, and then sent the psd to girlfriends friend who made the correct margins etc, and saved in pdf. Printed brilliantly, and only cost $139 (just under $100USD) for 1000 cards

Thanks. :)

Never on MSN? That's because I work two jobs... ;)
And chase Kirst everywhere, that could be a third job. But a great one though. :D

Yes, I also went to click businesscards.co.nz Took 3 days for the order to arrive.
I'll pass a copy through next time I get a chance, but basically I used the 3 pics on my website entry plus text
