Here a few recent ones of a friend's daughter with this lens!
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3439/3981085163_dfb9d524e7_o.jpg
...and believe it or not here is the shot she herself took of my wife...ok I set it for her and done the processing, but still...! See even this lens can be used by 11 year olds with great results - the eyes were tack sharp!
Great sharpness there. I really like this shot and her eye looks wonderful. How much effort did you put into that?
Shot of this spider is heavily cropped:

Well, relatively little, except for heal & clone work on skin and some cleaning up on the redness in the eyes & USM.

Wow man, you have a great approach to editing skin. Not overdone and VERY natural looking compared to the SOOC version. Although she's young and has good skin to start with :P
Good job.
Btw, PJ makes me think of the Disney Animated movie of Robin Hood. ;)

The 28-75 has to be the most lens for the $$.. I had the 24-70, and the only difference i see is a little vignetting in the corners. But its everybit as sharp , with awesome colors.

Like the poster above, I have also decided to sell my copy of this lens. Ad is in the sell section.
Nothing wrong with the lens. I really like it. But I am selling my tamron 17-35 and the tamron 28-75 and getting a tamron 17-50. It fits in my line up better and I don't give up any quality.
Hope I don't regret this decision.

Not much difference between the 28-75 and the 17-50 so you shouldn't have too much regret. Both are fine lenses! Good luck on your sale.

Thank you...
Yes the 430EX was behind her with a stand.
I put a bag over it to cover the flash and the ctr-301p.
however after 30 seconds later the bag flew and the 430ex had a few seconds of rain..
i took another one and put rubber band around.. that held no problem..
so if u do this... make sure u strap the bag somehow to keep it on JUST in case.

I can see that you're becoming a prime addict!...don't blame you I guess! The Sigmalux is brilliant, from what I have seen in the samples thread and I'm itching to get it too!! But I still think improvements in my lighting would suit me more than a new lens...unless its a UWA which I'm currently missing.
Good luck with your decision!

I got a really good deal on it but the biggest improvement is the focusing of the lense. I love the tammy and its my first recomended piece of glass to anyone who asks what should be thier first purchase beyond kit. However, i shoot in low light (i know i can use flash but some places dont allow for it, and im also not a flash person) quite often and it tended to hunt. That was my only complaint. When i switched to the 24-70 the lock was super quick. And just to compare i used both the tammy and the 24-70 at the nets game last night. Where the Tammy hunted the 24 locked in quick. Again not bashing the lense at all. Im the first to tell you its an awesome piece, great IQ! and very light! all at a bargain price level :)

Not all, and the ones that have, often do it for the missing elements not found on the Tammy - USM, FTM, weather sealing, flare control, quicker focussing, 4mm on the wide end, red stripe - not for IQ.
Still, it is by far, IMHO (and others), the best "bang for buck" portrait zoom lens.

got to agree 100% Miss my tamron as it seemed sharper, but I do love the quicker focus of the brick. I miss the weight of the tammy as well. Colors seem much better on the L....

+1 Exactly i just told a good buddy of mine to get the nikon equivilant. Ill always praise the tammy for price/iq ratio. You cant beat it!

I just got this lens and doing some tests, and could use some input and opinions.
Hope it is ok to do it here.
I am a little unsure about it at this point. Stopped down it is pretty sharp, but so is the kit lens.
I know wide open they are "soft" but how soft is my problem.
Mine seems really soft at 2.8 to me, or my expectations were just set to high.
I am also not really sure how to properly test a lens...again suggestions are welcome...I am very new to all this but obsessed with it!
all these were shot on tripod with mirror lock and cable release.
shot in RAW imported into photoshop just to resize. no crop, no pp.

You are right it does look soft wide open. It might be a focusing issue, try this test: http://photo.net/learn/focustest/. My lens is a little soft at 2.8, but by 4.0 its as sharp as any lens I have.

Definitely looks softer than it should be. The lens is tack sharp at 2.8, so if you have just got it, I'd try exchanging it for another copy.
However, in addition to what afviper mentioned, try shooting people and see if the eyes are sharp.

MMURAD have you tried focus tests with batteries or ruler? I think your copy is front focusing. In your cat shots it looks like the focus is on the nose, while in the hummingbird shot the focus is on the red flowers to the left of the bird (maybe because the bird's color is really similar to the bush)

I will try the battery and ruler test. (once I learn how to do those LOL)
I used center spot focus on the cats eye (one shot) and it was dead center.
The humming bird was center spot focus as well, but Servo focus.
I already started the return through Amazon and they are sending me a new lens Monday (next day shipping for free!) so I will have 2 copies to test side by side.

have any of you using this lens felt the need for image stabilization? are you happy with the results regardless?
I really like this lens but it costs just as much as the new Sigma 17-70mm with OS, the thing is for me is that I always liked the IQ of Tamrons and I read lots of people having problems with the Sigma 17-70. Can anyone help here?

the sigma isnt a fixed aperture, its 4.5 at the long end, so your shutter speed will be much slower for a given focal length..

I've never missed the lack of IS/OS/VC on the Tammy 28-75. It's not a heavy lens, while not being too light (like the nifty fifty)

the advantage would be the IS/OS versus none in low light situations, the Sigma wide open in low light will get help from the OS while the Tammy will need very steady hands or a tripod I would think, just what I'm trying to find out...

I am thinking of getting a Macro lens (tamron 90 or sigma 105) but thought I would test out this lens to see what it could do.
I have never shot macro or flowers and I can see I set my DOF a bit to shallow. Should probably stop these down a bit. But it was fun and I think they came out pretty good.

I tried my 2x teleconverter on this Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens and took some photos.
Wow it was amazingly detailed for macro photos! I'm very impressed with this lens in every way.
Yeah I've played with the 2x on it and it's actually quite good. Hence I'm taking the 2x with me on a holiday as it's small and gives me a combo with a bit of reach.
This is with the 2x, 150mm @ F/8 (lens at 75mm @ F/4 ): http://www.clubpoint.net/bluebird/.misc/IMG_0179.JPG
It's surprising to find that the AF, while it may jitter back and forth a bit on low contrast objects, is often still quite ok.
