Finally I think I have a solution for all around great looking prints. Turns out the resolution and sharpness was IN the camera just had a tough time getting it out to the printer.
Couple things I noticed FWIW.
On i950 Turn image optimizer off and photo optimizer on and apply throughout the page. I use this printer for 4X6 images - can't beat it.
I use the p-400 for everything larger and it is fantastic!
In PS be careful on picture package to set the pixels per inch high enough - not 72. More like 300+ seems to yield nice prints. The 72 gives lots of jaggies on p-400 b/c of the inherent sharpness in the printer.
