Put a light behind the sweet corn and aim it at 90 degrees this will catch the steam play around with ratio's, to get the effect you want...works as the same concept with smoke, I have used one hotshoe flash for the smoke shots below...

you could also try some A&B smoke.

It's binary liquid that when you mix the two parts they produce smoke. That way you can take your time with a setup and is safer then trying to dress hot food on a set.
Other food shot tricks, like using a woodburning/soldering iron to get the grill marks on meat, putting a piece of screen in the bowl to prop up vegetables (so it looks like there is more) when shooting soups.

On the flip side, there is fake ice you can buy that looks very real. It comes in all he shapes that real ice comes in... small grannuals, chopped up chunks, cubes, large cubes and other shapes.

heffsarmy, that first shot is amazing!!!! Could you elaborate a bit on how you got that effect? (i.e. what was lit, background, flash. etc)

in other words, how did you get the smoke blue, and the background black. Sorry newbie here.

The corn shots are brilliant - even without steam.. perhaps steam will detract from the perfect composition? Lovely.
