Dear all,

We've touched on this in the past, but I found a very interesting statement and link yesterday.

This page (http://epaperpress.com/monitorcal/index.html) contains a statement that the best LCD monitors are currently made using S-IPS technology. It gives this site (http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php) to look up which monitors use which panels, and this site (http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php) that details the differences.

My Dell 2005FPW is an S-IPS screen. I've certainly noticed the wide viewing angle and the excellent colour rendition. Unfortunately my particular 2005FPW has a dark stain that often affects the top of the screen, about which I will be contacting Dell shortly to see about an RMA. Apart from that problem (which I'm sure is a one-off problem to my monitor), I'd recommend the 2005FPW wholeheartedly. I can't say I've ever really noticed the purple shadows.

I'm pretty sure my laptop (Dell Latitude D600 with a 1400 x 1050 screen) is TN+film - the viewing angle is terrible. Laptop screens are never the best anyway, because of the limited physical space and power available for the backlight.
