View Full Version : 4MP DIGIC cameras and shoot-to-sun distortion

Hi
I'm trying to do a little survey and research here.
There is a bug, first detected by S45 owners, but recently by a G3 owner, related to some "sun in the frame" pictures. In some cases, a dark green distortion band appears in the top area (in lanscape) or in one of the sides (in portrait). Both cameras have the same 4MP CCD and DIGIC processor, the same used also in the S400.
In my S50 ( a 5MP CCD camera with the same DIGIC logic) I was unable to reproduce the bug.
The idea is to discover if the S400 or some pre-DIGIC 4MP cameras (as the G2 or S40) have the same problem or not. Also would be a good idea if some G5/S50 owners also try to reproduce the bug.
This will be crossposted in the G2 and G3 forum.

could you post a picture of this "bug"??

It'd really help in its identification :P

There is a crosspost from the G3 forum. I have no photos with the problem to show.

Hi all!

I am a new guy here~

My Canon G3 have problems when shooting compose with the sun.

Please look at the photos by using below links.

Those photos are compose of sun inside the picture, and the greenish dirt belt is appear on the top of the picture.

However , if the photos taken are not compose with sun, the picture is fine (no greenish dirt belt) overall.

Please tell me all Canon G3 have this problem , or my Canon G3 is defective.
Thank you.

oh god!

well, you can add to you list that the S50 doesn't have that...at least mine doesn't...

but that's terrible! looks like they've added a solarize filter or something...
